Holistic doctor that specializes in endo in LA area? (Crossposted in r/endometriosis)
Hey y’all, I was wondering if anyone in the Los Angeles area had a specialist or holistic doctor they went to for treatment. I already have a fantastic excision surgeon that I go to (Doctor Kelly Wright at Cedars-Sinai) but I’m looking for someone that can help me more with the day to day stuff and be my regular ob-gyn.
Dr. Wright is a phenomenal and caring surgeon and I cannot recommend going to her enough if you need excision surgery. I just feel bad wasting a valuable appointment with her on birth control stuff when she could be seeing someone who needs a surgery scheduled instead. My body really doesn’t tolerate birth control/synthetic hormones and I was wondering if anyone had been to any doctors that took a more natural or holistic approach to treatment.
Once again this is not a knock on my doctor that I’m seeing, it’s just that I’m looking for non birth control treatments and I don’t want to waste her time. She is genuinely wonderful and she took me seriously and immediately recommended surgery. It went very well and I will absolutely be going back to her when I need another lap.
Any recommendations are appreciated! And if you need an excision specialist please look up Dr. Wright!! She’s wonderful!

Lol that’s a good idea, I’m just dumb. I definitely recommend going in and talking to her tho for your purposes. She is really kind and caring, and she takes time to listen to all of your concerns. Cedars-Sinai is also doing a research study with patients who undergo laparoscopic excision, so you can donate whatever they find to help further research if you are interested! They don’t require it, but I did it to help further the cause. Also the whole surgical staff there is amazing too, I can’t recommend them enough!

I’m not trans but my surgeon was Dr. Kelly Wright at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles. She’s in her early 30s I think and she was very nice and listened to everything I had to say. My surgery was at the end of May last year and so at my follow up appointment I was talking about having gone to Pride in West Hollywood and her and the nurses had gone as well. I’m bisexual, it’s noted in my forms and I dress very *non hetero* and she was nothing but kind and respectful and she treated me just like any other patient. I totally know being bi and trans are different things, but the whole vibe of that place is very warm and accepting.
I had a fantastic experience with the whole staff at Cedars so I would check them out. They take most major insurances but you can look on the website to see if they accept yours. If you are near California/Los Angeles, I would def at least give them a call! Good luck with everything, we’re all rooting for you!

Well the thing about “being too young” to diagnose adeno is just false. I was 19 when diagnosed, 21 now and I’m getting a hysterectomy in a little over a month. Adeno is incredibly rare in people under 40 but it can certainly be diagnosed. I wholeheartedly support you in going to get a second opinion and it is frankly shocking that a specialist would say something as idiotic as that.
If you are near Southern California at all, I highly recommend Dr. Kelly Wright at Cedars Sinai. She is very proactive, especially with you get patients, and she listens to all your concerns and assesses from there. This will be my second surgery with her and I’m looking forward to it because I know she will do the best job.
Good luck, I hope everything goes well and you get the care you need!
**Edit**
Adeno is not “incredibly rare” in people under 40; I was typing fast lol. It’s more uncommon in people under 40 and pretty rare in people ages 16-25. I think only about 3% of cases are found in this age

Great doctor in Los Angeles
Hey y’all, I just wanted to share my experience over the past two years dealing with endo. If you’re in the SoCal area and you need treatment, Dr. Kelly Wright at Cedars-Sinai in LA is fantastic! I am healing up from my second surgery with her and both have been very positive experiences.
Her whole team and everyone at the hospital are all so wonderful and kind, and they really take the time to address any questions or concerns you have. Dr. Wright lets you talk through all of your symptoms and she explains everything so well. They are also great at responding to any questions in a timely manner.
I was 19 when I first went to see her, and she was the first doctor who really listened, and she recommended me for surgery during that appointment. For the one I had three weeks ago, I ended up needing a hysterectomy due to my adenomyosis and bleeding issues. I was a bit worried about having to persuade a doctor to do this since I’m only 21, but within 15 minutes I was approved without a fight, and she was very supportive. It took me so long to find a doctor who believed me and trusted me to make decisions about my body, and so it was such a relief to find her! Both of my surgeries went extremely well, and the instructions they gave for afterward were incredibly thorough.
Dr. Wright is a specialist that works in the Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery department, so she is who to go to if you want a laparoscopy. Because she is so specialized, she isn’t able to be your regular OBGYN, but she can prescribe different treatments and give great recommendations. Just a note, it will probably take 1-2 months to get an appointment, but my experience is that it is well worth the wait!
If you are looking to get a laparoscopy, I highly recommend looking into Dr. Wright! She is an incredibly kind and empathetic doctor that listens and cares about her patients. Everyone I’ve interacted with at Cedars has been so kind and I can’t recommend this pla

If you can travel to Los Angeles you can self-refer at cedars Sinai with Dr Kelly Wright. I called them in March and I just had my lap on Monday.

I saw Dr Kelly Wright at cedars Sinai, she was amazing. The only thing is that even if you have the excision surgery it doesn’t always improve fertility /:

My friend told me about them. I saw Dr Kelly wright at cedars Sinai. It was through “minimally invasive gynecological surgeries”. I was able to just call and self-refer, which was the best part. I’m sure you could try calling them and ask if they could recommend anyone in your area, they were so helpful.

I went to Dr Kelly wright at cedars Sinai and their office was amazing. The doctors were all amazing too, if it’s a possibility for you to switch clinics.

Dr Wright with Cedars Sinai. I was expecting her to reassure me that the MRI was just an extra step we had to take for insurance. My surgery is at the end of July. I know I’m gonna spend all these months agonizing over whether to get the hysterectomy or not. My pelvic floor PT helped a bit today. She also let me know that they have a support group of post op patients of this surgeon that I can connect with.

Wow!!! I’m in the same exact boat and she dismissed me too - my surgeon is positive, even after it showed up negative. Dr. Wright also told me she wouldn’t perform a hysterectomy because she didn’t see signs of adenomyosis. Well, I still got it with another surgeon and guess what…that biopsy was confirmed adenomyosis! Hope you found another doctor .

I’m so glad you did! I really really wanted her to be my doctor here in LA, but she refused surgery twice (endo was confirmed both times after surgery with another provider plus adenomyosis and I had to get a hysterectomy). I felt totally brushed off and was crushed.

Los Angeles/SoCal Doctor Recs
Hi lovely endo girlies. I am posting this because I ran around for a year confused on who to see for my possible endo and even went to Oregon to see Dr. Mohling because I didn't think there was anyone in SoCal that was as qualified as her.
Though I do love her and wish I could have went to her (my insurance wouldn't cover her hospital fees), I have found several amazing surgeons in LA/SoCal and want to share my experience with you all in case you're in the position I was in and confused about where to go.
Dr. Iris Orbuch - highly recommend, but she is a cash-only doctor. If you have good out of network benefits, you can get reimbursed for the surgery fee. I have spoke to a couple women who really did get reimbursed so I know it is possible. But you have to be comfortable fronting the 5-digit cost and accept that you might not get reimbursed. My insurance flat out refused... so on to the next one for me.
Cedars Sinai MIGS Team - Dr. Wright specifically is who I saw and who my surgery is scheduled with. Accepts insurance. There is a waitlist to be seen but once you're seen surgery can be scheduled 4-6 weeks out. She is super kind - one difference I noticed in her approach is she does not use the robot, but I don't know if this matters much at all. She said she completes hundreds of endo surgeries per year.
Dr. Stuparich at UCR Women's Health - Accepts insurance. I'm still finishing up my series of appointments with her. She's one I wish I would have seen in the first place because she has her sonographers trained on specific ultrasound endometriosis protocol. They test the mobility of the reproductive organs and do a very thorough review of everything, it's very different than a standard pelvic ultrasound. The drive isn't fun if you're in LA but I think she is totally worth the drive and is very knowledgeable and kind. She can do most appointments on Zoom except for the ultrasound.
Anyways - hope this helps someone, and thanks to

Endo literate doctors in LA (not surgeons)
Hi! I am not looking for surgeons as I just had surgery in January at Cedars with Dr. Wright (amazing experience). But I am about to enter a rigorous nursing program starting in September, and I'd like to apply for disability with my university so I can get more than 1 day off a quarter if I need it, and possibly get some other accommodations like extended due dates. Dr. Wright's office doesn't handle disability forms apparently, so now I have to find a gyno or primary care dr who is literate in endo. I did a Google search and a lot of the doctors that came up had a lot of misinformation about endo. I didn't think I'd have to embark on another journey to find a doctor who understands how debilitating the disease is AFTER I've already had surgery, but here we are. I don't have as many flare ups as I used to but I am trying to be prepared, since it's a 2 year program.
Thank you for any suggestions.

I’m sorry I just now saw this. I went with Dr. Wright mainly because she is a 15 min drive from me and I love Cedars Sinai. I thought Stuparich was a great doctor too and I think both would have yielded the same result. But Stuparichs office when I went (this is no longer her office anymore) was really disorganized and honestly not that nice. The drive was also miserable.

Experience with negative biopsies?
Hi all. I had some biopsies taken for suspected endometriosis during an emergency appendectomy. The surgeon was a general OBGYN surgeon and she was 100% sure I had endometriosis and adenomyosis. The biopsies came back negative. She explained that because I’ve been on some form of hormonal therapy since I was 13 (20 years now), it is not uncommon to get a false negative and she was sure in her diagnosis.
I was seeing an endometriosis surgeon in LA in hopes of getting some relief, but because the biopsies were negative, I’m not considered a surgical case. She wouldn’t schedule an appointment with me and instead sent me a message claiming my pelvic pain was normal and probably made worse because of the appendicitis. She suggested finding another birth control to help with my “painful uterus”.
Unless I’ve had appendicitis for 20 years (I didn’t), there’s no way this is the case. Has anyone had false negatives? I’m wondering if I should get another opinion but I’ve been through so many doctors I’m just tired of the whole process.
For what it’s worth, the diagnosis given to me by the OBGYN surgeon matches my life experience. It was what I expected so being so quickly shut out by the endometriosis expert has put me in a sad place.

Thank you!! It was a general OBGYN surgeon who took the biopsies. It was Dr. Wright at Cedars-Sinai who dismissed me. I will see if Dr. Orbuch accepts my insurance, I really appreciate the recommendation. I don’t live in LA, I live inland but I’m willing to travel around SoCal to find help.

I had my lap with Dr Kelly Wright of Cedars Sinai in SoCal. Cedars is a big hospital system so I would imagine they accept united insurance since hats a pretty common one. Highly recommend doing surgery with someone in network with your insurance. I just went through all my bills from my lap and the total cost of my procedure was around $72K. No way could I take on that cost without insurance coverage. Luckily I paid $0 since I’d hit my out of pocket max for the year. I hate that healthcare is so expensive in the US!

Dr. Kelly Wright from Cedars Sinai Los Angeles California. There is a line to get an appointment for consult and surgery but this is because she is high demand. I've suffered from endometriosis for 16 years with so many symptoms and I am feeling much better now. She does excision surgery thru laparoscopy. Excision surgery is the best way to treat endo. Goodluck!

Dr Wright changed my life and I had an excellent experience. Happy to chat with anyone about her! I had a very severe case of endo and adeno and needed full hysterectomy and oophorectomy after multiple failed laps by other surgeons.
Positive r/Endo Aug 22, 2024 +1 pts
Hi! Of course. I did meet with her on video chat only beforehand. I never saw her in person with the exception of the surgery day. Have you expressed that you want to speak with her directly? It was very odd for me so I can totally understand why you're concerned. My husband and I decided that going with her expertise was more important to us than personal touches, but again I did meet with her on video chat. The day of the surgery she sat with me and was very kind and caring before surgery. I felt at ease with her.
Because I had both of my ovaries removed there was no need for birth control. I am on HRT (she did prescribe estrogen patch to get me started), but I am doing all my HRT with a GYN. It sounds like you will not need such drastic measure though!
Any further questions? I am so sorry you're going through this. It is really a horrible, life-stealing disease and I wish for you to be pain free ASAP.
