Would you consider traveling to Seattle for your surgery? My doc is amazing and affiliated with Swedish, which is “unified” with Providence in Western WA. Her name is [Dr. Brooke Winner](https://schedule.swedish.org/doctors/minimally-invasive-gynecologic-surgery/wa/seattle/brooke-winner-1083860753) and she is unbelievable. She works with traveling patients often and can make pre-op very convenient and condensed so you only have to make one trip, and she does virtual consults.

Absolutely. Try [Dr. Brooke Winner](https://schedule.swedish.org/doctors/minimally-invasive-gynecologic-surgery/wa/seattle/brooke-winner-1083860753) at Swedish, she’s incredible and a leader in her field. I’d recommend getting that appt scheduled now while you wait for your new insurance to kick in; it took me a while to get in for my first appointment. I didn’t do my pre-paperwork where I provided my insurance info until a day or two before our first visit (which was virtual). Thereafter, she sent me for an ultrasound (closer to my home so I didn’t have to go into the city), and we will have a follow up to discuss surgery plans in about 2 weeks. You can check out her personality/approach on Instagram as well. I hope it works out for you soon, I’m right there with you in that awful pain cycle❤️

I have my hysterectomy and excision with Dr. Brooke Winner from Swedish in Seattle on Thursday. She’s a MIG surgeon who specializes in endo and other specialized reproductive health issues, and she is the best thing that has happened to me on my 10+ year journey. I highly recommend looking her up. This is what she does all day, every day, and I’m so grateful my gynecologist refused to excise my endo and encouraged me to seek a specialist.

Of course! Dr. Brooke Winner, she operates out of the Providence/Swedish hospitals in the area. You can also check out her Instagram while doing research on her at @dr.brookewinner. I had my total hysterectomy and excision 3 weeks ago and I cannot overstate how much better I feel, even with the post-op healing and soreness. She’s incredible.
If you are local to the area, she doesn’t pack everything in the same with all appts squished together but if you’re coming from elsewhere, this is not a roadblock and you don’t have to come up prior to your surgery time.

Yes! Keep your expectations level and hope for the best case. It took zero convincing to have exactly what I wanted done. I listed off everything else I’d tried to show I’d really done everything I could to avoid surgery but it turns out I didn’t even need to fight for it. She just believed me, took me seriously and said it was up to ME whether I was ready to continue with the surgery scheduling. It felt like a dream after so much frustration, pain and sadness over the years. She is quite popular so stick out the waiting period—it is so worth it!

Dr. Winner changed my life. She is the most bad ass surgeon with amazing bedside manner, and the kicker: all my pain is gone, and my recovery was incredibly easy. I saw her for my 8 week post op the other day and nearly cried when she came into the room—she is the real deal. I will shout her praises until the day I die!!
I have heard a lot of people talk about Dr. Mosbrucker; I initially thought she was going to be the surgeon I ended up going with. However, I found some troubling info about a disciplinary action associated with her license and the nature of the negative reviews she has received (which are, to be fair, few) scared me away.

Thank you so much! Of course—I made my first appt (self referral) last February, waited for my first appt with her in Aug, went for an ultrasound end of Aug and then had a follow up with her after that to discuss my results, confirm surgery was the best path and schedule my surgery. Surgery happened in Feb of this year, so one year from start to finish but holy moly, I would not change a thing.
Her office is extremely responsive but she is very, very busy; I brought all my questions to my appointments and she took such care and time to answer every one and drew me a diagram, then when I had more later on, I dropped them in the portal and her staff got me answers within 3-4 days. I never felt neglected but it does help to go into it with the mindset that you want the best surgeon for you, and often the best means high demand and long waits. When I had an appt with her (virtual or in person), it has always seemed like I had her full attention and she was never eager to leave. Her confi

Dr. Winner is my doctor as well, she changed my life! I will never forget what she’s done for me, absolutely the best care experience I’ve ever had. Do not walk, run! She’s amazing, kind and I never, ever had to justify my symptoms, feelings, or wants in my journey. I was just believed, and validated, and then I got my surgery date. I’ll sing her praises forever!

I hope you found your solution since your post. I just learned Dr. Winner is back online and announced her own private endo and fibroid treatment practice with Dr. Kretzer. There’s a waitlist and fee breakdown [here](https://fullspectrumgyn.com). She will still be performing surgery at Swedish, but her care now will take a different approach.
I know opinions may vary, but she did more for me than any other doctor I’ve ever had. She changed my life and I will sing her praises until the end of time.

My doc has a private practice and uses a very reasonable pay scale for her surgeries (this is separate from the hospital’s fees). I’d look into others like hers in the locations you prefer, as I am not confident you can obtain American insurance when you reside in Australia. I’m not sure of your age, but my doc has publicly stated she is willing to perform sterilization procedures on people in their 20s. I do hope you can get the care you need!

I saw her before she left to go private, but this is her pricing scale (not including hospitalization/anesthesia, which can be covered in part by your insurance):
Consult: $300
Surgical Fee: $6000
Here’s what they have to say about out of network: If you have out-of-network benefits, your insurance company may reimburse you for a portion of the consultation and/or surgeon fees. As a courtesy to our patients, we have employed a biller who can submit a courtesy claim to your insurance for you. Alternatively, our biller can send you the itemized receipt and you can submit it to your insurance. Be aware that both of these processes can take a long time - several months or longer.
[Here’s her practice](https://www.fullspectrumgyn.com), it’s in Seattle and her name is Dr Brooke Winner. She often works with out of area patients and will schedule so you only make one visit for the consult/surgery and do all pre-testing in your own area. She made my life so much better.

I know one in Seattle. She wasn't able to help me but helps many women. Dr. Winner. I was the first patient she had to close because it was too severe but I did countless research and she's the specialist to go to if you're in WA.

Dr. Winner, I just had surgery by her. She wasn't able to help me but is an excision specialist and does 8-10 stage IV cases a week. She's the go to from all my research (I live in Seattle) I have two 8cm endometriomas. They haven't burst or done anything yet. I don't think it's something you have to worry about. But I have adhesions and frozen pelvis so that could be why. You have to get them removed because they never go away, they can shrink from birth control but they'll always be there. You need a diagnostic lap first to biopsy, and see what's going on.

Thank you. Someone else mentioned that hormone so I'm doing my research. I've had my excision by Dr. Winner who did not think Dr. mosbrucker would be able to do it. At this rate I am past regular excision specialists, I think. I've had many consults. That's why I decided to go to Dr. Nezhat. If he can't, I'm not really sure who can.
Yes surrogacy is an option, I just can't afford IVF nor am I a candidate for it because of the positioning of my ovaries. It might be something I consider after a successful excision but right now it's not something I can consider especially with all the hormones they give you for egg retrieval. I'm kind of in a bind until my next surgery :( appreciate all your opinions and helpful feedback.

Will add to this, Dr. Winner did my last surgery. I'm a very complex case. She opened me up and closed me on the table. She said it was the first time in her career. I don't think her bedside manner was great and she spent more time drawing pictures than actually listening to me. Which led to her and 4 other surgeons not being able to remove anything or even visualize my pelvic structures at all.
She's almost a year out for surgery. I lost 4500 on a surgery deductible that she didn't complete, then when I had my post op she left the practice. I would give her 3/5. Thankful she didn't proceed and seriously injure me if she couldn't do it but also so disappointed. I tried to tell her this same scenario happened during my diagnostic and she said "well other surgeons aren't as qualified". Didn't tell me that she didn't complete anything we set out for, and no one on her team did after surgery She told my mom who couldn't understand the complexity of what she was describing.

Can you describe your severity a bit more? I have a surgeon who couldn't do my surgery but is one of the best in Washington and takes most insurance. It's Dr. Winner. She's helped a lot of stage IV. And I was the only surgery she couldn't complete in her career so I would say that she is pretty good. If yours is anything like mine I wouldn't recommend her. She told my Dr. Mosbrucker likely wouldn't be able to do my surgery, and I consulted with James Miller at UW who wasn't able to. All excision surgeons.

Oh I'm sorry to hear that. I meant the severity of the stage. If it's stage IV, Dr. winner does that very often. But if you knew the locations and how far it had spread I could give you more information. I have it very severely that's why it didn't work for me but she's a good option for Stage IV patients because she knows how to remove off of the bowels and bladder.
If you want to consult with her I read a bunch of great reviews before my surgery. But if you have a severe case, past other surgeons, I saw Dr. Nezhat in California and he removed it all. I was also in network with him. They told me I would need a bowel resection, bladder resection, likely ostomy bag, and would lose my tubes and ovaries. That's from the surgeons out in Washington because I have consulted with most of them and had surgery with two of them.
Dr. Nezhat saved all of my organs, no bowel or bladder resection and no bag.

Hi! I’m in Issaquah and going with Dr. Winner. Happy to connect as well! I’ve been through excision surgery with another doc, but hysterectomy is in the works with her. The response time from her staff with all my concerns and questions sealed the deal for me. Met her last week to review all my tests and history and feel good about going with her for the surgery. Two days post-op
This forum has given me so much comfort and advice the last few months prepping for surgery! Had an endo excision and radical hysterectomy on Friday 2/9. Also took appendix. It’s two days post op and I am SHOCKED at how well I’m doing! I had excision with a different surgeon 5 years ago and that recovery was significantly worse.
The pain can get bad but combo of ibuprofen + oxy is helping. I walked about 1/4 mile around a pond yesterday and today. I actually feel like myself other than just being really really sore.
All this to say, I’m a huge baby with a very low pain tolerance and I’m so surprised at how normal I feel.
If you’re in the PNW, I cannot recommend Dr. Brooke Winner enough!

I had a post-op with Dr. Kretzer this week, and she said they were all devastated at the impact on patients, especially this population that has been in so much pain. They’re doing their best but she definitely acknowledged how awful this is for those who are impacted.
She also said that there are reasons Dr. Winner isn’t allowed to respond to patients even via IG so if you don’t get a response to not take it personally.
Whatever happened happened very suddenly. My heart breaks for patients like you who are impacted. I feel very very lucky to have gotten in just before it happened. Sending you lots of well wishes ❤️

I’m 33, but I had my tubes tied at 21. You won’t convince that doctor. I hopped around for years before I found a doctor who took me seriously, and I had to have a psych evaluation anyway. If I were you? Find a specialist. Join an adeno Facebook group and search your city or state/province, or ask for recommendations.
Even with my tubes tied, even with me married and in my 30s, there was reluctance to give me a hysterectomy. I found a specialist through the group (Dr Winner, if you’re in the Seattle area) and I’m very happy with her. She looked at the evidence and cleared me. I recommend that you do the same thing.
I also recommend that you ask your doctor to note in your chart that you’re asking for a hysterectomy. It will help build a paper trail that you’ve been asking/thinking about this for a long time. Good luck!!

Dr. Brooke Winner, Seattle, WA
she’s a minimally invasive gynecological surgeon who ONLY does gyn surgery - no OB work at all. So she’s really good at what she does and she completes a high number of surgeries and trainings. I will say that she has a really long waitlist (I think I waited 4 months and she’s up to 7 months now), but I’ve also heard good things about Dr Mars, who she shares an office with.

Dr Winner is another option. She is a surgical gynecologist who operates out of Swedish, and she did my hysterectomy in April of last year. Can’t recommend her enough. She also is in practice with Dr Mars, who I never saw, but who is also a minimally invasive surgical gynecologist. Dr winner’s waiting list is usually 7+ months long so Dr Mars might be a better option if you don’t know how long you’ll have insurance.

Beating a dead horse here, but if you haven’t heard already, highly highly recommend finding a true endometriosis specialist, not just a general gyno surgeon. Harder to find and most don’t take insurance but well worth it for their skills.

Trigger warning - surgery gone wrong. Also need surgeon recs and insurance advice 😣
**Trigger warning - surgery gone wrong**
SO in October of 2021 I had excision surgery with Dr Winner in Seattle. Unfortunately during the insertion of the laparoscopic arm (trocar) my aorta was punctured. They completed excision, but after or during (it’s unclear) the surgery they noticed I was bleeding internally. They called a vascular surgeon who made a 6 inch midline incision directly up the center of my belly to repair the tear in my aorta. They also gave me all the units of blood they had on hand for emergencies. I was supposed to go home the same day, per normal excision, but ended up staying in the hospital for 4 days on heavy duty painkillers. It was a long recovery after that during which my grandma and dad both died.
During excision they took my appendix and found paratubal and ovarian cysts and endo on my uterosacral ligaments, uterus, posterior cul-de-sac and adhesions on my pelvic wall. She said that if I had waited much longer my fallopian tubes wouldn’t have been savable.
For the past year I have been dealing with pain from the incision. If sweatpants have an internal drawstring tie - that knot will irritate the scar. Sometimes it just hurts for no reason. It causes back pain and just all sorts of pelvic and abdominal issues. Also over the past year its been a slow return of endo symptoms - more painful periods, painful bowl movements etc etc. Had an ultrasound last week and it showed endometrias on my ovaries so who knows where else it is at this point.
So here I am, 2 years out from my first traumatic surgery, looking at another.
I am really not interested in trusting my next excision to anyone except a surgeon on the Nook list, or someone who has really really really great reviews. I really don’t want to have another surgery at all and am having panic attacks at the idea.
Unfortunately I am on WA state insurance, and the only Nook certified surgeon he

lap today w/ Seattle specialist - so validating.
After two years of bad symptoms (less than many, I realize!) I just had my lap this morning. I waited to get in with a specialist in Seattle (Dr. Winner!) over my OBGYN, and feel so good about this decision.
From the notes my partner took when the doctor called, they found and excised/biopsied (where applicable):
\- uterine septum
\-uterine polyp
\- possible endo in muscle? (adeno)
\- endo right side of pelvis, backside of uterus, left ovary
\- allan masters window /peritoneal pocket

I feel so unbelievably validated... more than anything I was afraid they wouldn't find anything. I spent so much time gaslighting myself despite my best efforts. My abdomen is super achey and sore from the procedure now, but I just feel such a huge weight lifted. This page has really helped me feel seen and less alone throughout this journey. Thanks all xx

That's great! So I had a consult with one of her registered nurses that was early April - she (the ARNP) was able to OK me for a procedure to start the scheduling process before I even met with Dr. Winner, just based off my symptoms and what had been ruled out via imaging/tests. Since you have confirmed endometriomas, I would imagine you would may have a similar experience if you also have the extra consult. This then meant that my appt with Dr. Winner that was scheduled for late May as a "consult" turned into a pre-op appt. So the timeline was Early april (met with ARNP, started scheduling op), late may pre-op, and june 10 procedure.
She does book out far (I think I initially called in January to schedule my consults with her), but for me it was worth it! I had endo on one of my ureters and i know many docs would not have been able to excise that. I also just felt a lot more confident going into the procedure knowing that I would have little to no doubts about the diagnosis/findings

I looked up her license to see if there was anything pending, but I found nothing… might be too early? But this makes me think this was something on her terms or something happened to her.

Post Op/Review of Dr. Brooke Winner in Seattle
Y’all. I was S.U.F.F.E.R.I.N.G. and I knew it, but now that I have a new normal to compare it to, I just feel so sorry for my past self. I have stage IV, 26F, with paternal grandmother having had a full hysterectomy at 17 for same symptoms.
Essentially my entire left side was trapped. Ovary to tube, tube to uterus, ovary to abdominal wall, ovary to bowel. Uterus was attached to bowel, stuck in a weird angle, and all of it was kind of attached to the rectum (hello lightning butt). Bowel to bowel. Removed another 2 endometriomas and a fibroid. Spots along my bladder and covering the uterus. My tubes essentially are coated in a layer of it. About 20 samples sent off, all endo
They took out everything they could while preserving fertility (tubes are clear!) It took double the estimated time (5.5 hours!!). I was told a complete hysterectomy will most likely be in my near future (hoping for one child first).
I am so grateful to Dr. Winner. She gave me my life back. She’s very direct and to the point, and spoke to me as an equal in my care (even before I told her my background as a nurse). If you need someone that feels warm and inviting, she might give off bad vibes to you- but this woman knows her stuff. Recovery was easy(off opioids by day 3, off over the counters after 5 or 6 days)
I am nearly 3 months out and my periods are calmer, mildly crampy, but nowhere near debilitating. I’ve not needed Tranexemic Acid. My abdominal distention has not happened since removal. I haven’t needed to call out for my job for endo reasons a single time since recovery. I am happier. People tell me I look and walk healthier. I would recommend her a million times over.
