its finally happening!!
im finally being scheduled for an MRI and laparoscopy! i've been dealing with pain thats only gotten more debilitating since i was 14 and all thats ever been done was being given different birth controls that did nothing to help, i'm now 18 and finally off of medicaid with better insurance through my moms job and IM BEING LISTENED TO!! i got so lucky, i started the process of this maybe a month ago. everyone i have seen has not questioned me they believe me and they want to help. i cannot stress this enough if you are in the dfw area and you are struggling with this and you are able to, go see Dr. Melodi Reese-Holley at Omega Ob-Gyn in Arlington or Grand Prairie and Dr. Anthony O'Connell at Med City Dallas!!

he is absolutely amazing. told him my symptoms and 10 minutes into my first appointment with him he says "yup that sounds like endo" and immediately got me scheduled for an mri with and without contrast. he checks literally everywhere during the surgery including your diaphragm and stuff so like hes not missing anything. and he is an excision specialist! my surgery was entirely excision no ablation the guy really does not fw ablation. overall hes a very chill guy and will work with you on whatever, if you need pain meds he will give you pain meds no question and for me i've been a heavy smoker for years and he planned pretty much my whole treatment around that so i didn't have any bad med interactions. 10/10 would recommend

yes! he has you do an mri before the surgery to rule out adenomyosis.
the timeline for me was i had my initial appointment and he scheduled me for a follow up a month later and referred me to an imaging facility who was able to get me in within like 2 weeks. now for that i went to smaller location in red oak which is south of dallas so the wait wasn't as bad. once i had the follow up appointment i told him i wanted the laparoscopy and his surgery coordinator (who is also his wife btw its very sweet) called me like 2 days later and we scheduled. she actually offered me a date like 2 weeks away from when i was called but i opted for a later date so i could save up. so you very well could get this done within like 2-3 months.
i did stay overnight so he could monitor for anesthesia complications because i had never had a surgery like this before. i had 4 incisions, one right above my belly button, one on the left side of my abdomen, and 2 on the right side of my abdomen. i have like bar

the follow up was a telehealth appointment basically talking about the mri results like what was and wasn't seen on there and then deciding the course of treatment you want to go with whether it be surgery or pain management

i had both! my gynos office did my trans-vaginal ultrasound and i believe it was the $25 copay of a regular appointment which i was surprised it wasn't $75 but i didn't question it. and then my trans-abdominal was done by Dr. O'Connell at my consult appointment! i paid the $75 copay of a specialty appointment for that one. it depends on your insurance and what your copays are and what your out of pocket is looking like, its the new year which means everything reset so insurance related things are generally a bit pricier right now i think

He’s great. He will take his time and answer any questions you have. Don’t be alarmed when your appointment doesn’t start on time. He’s a talker so he’s always running behind.

I really liked everyone. I think it’s his wife that answers the phone she is really nice in person (she does billing and pre surgery) . I stayed in the hospital for a few days and that is where I didn’t have the best experience, one of the nurses in the woman’s ward was really rude, lucky I only had her on the last day for a few hours. But Dr.O’Connell and the on call doctor came to check on me a few times and they made be feel better about everything over all.

I traveled from Austin to Dallas for Dr. Anthony O’Connell. You should reach to him if you haven’t already. He was amazing.

I am in Dallas and had surgery this year with Dr. Anthony O’Connell. He was fantastic, he really listened to my symptoms and did a good job on the surgery too.

There’s a north Texas endometriosis support group on Facebook, lots of testimonials there about different surgeons. I had surgery with Dr. O’Connell last year, he’s pretty popular on the group. Other people like Dr. Haverland and Dr. Kho.

He had great bedside manner, he spends a lot of time with his patients which also means he usually runs late. He did a great job at validating my symptoms and experience as being abnormal which I appreciated after being gaslit by my regular gyno (she had done my first surgery in 2009 and said I couldn’t have had endo grow back because she got it all).
I had good symptom relief for about 2 months after surgery but unfortunately by 3 months my symptoms were back. I did some pelvic floor therapy which helped a bit, and also regular mental health therapy which seems to have helped a lot (I think some of my pelvic pain is associated with growing up in purity culture and I’ve been working on dealing with that). My gyno thinks I probably have some adhesions form post surgery that are causing the symptoms. She switched my birth control to slynd and that has helped a lot too.
I’m still glad I did the surgery even though it didn’t help much, but I don’t want to have another excision surgery.

I’m so sorry! What an awful ordeal. Not in Houston, but in Dallas, I’ve been seeing Dr. O’Connell and he’s wonderful and kind and listens well. I hope you find relief soon, OP!

I’m seeing Dr. O’Connell in Dallas, TX and he’s been great. He actually listened to his patients and is not dismissive at all. My first meeting with him he recommended I get surgery asap. I’m scheduled for this month.

Please check out the North Texas endometriosis support group on FB! Some people have had bad experiences with Dr. Garza. Lots of good experiences with Dr. O’Connell (my doctor) and Dr. Haverland!!

Have you been to pelvic rehabilitation medicine in Dallas? I am from DFW too. I had a good experience there. Also Dr. Anthony O Connell, I had surgery with him last year, he's a pelvic health specialist and can also address endometriosis.

Have you had surgery since 2022 to address the adhesions? Dr. Rachel Haverland is who I met with at Pelvic Rehabilitative Medicine. Dr. Anthony O'Connell is also a women's pelvic health specialist at Medical City in Dallas and I absolutely recommend having a consultation with him. I also had adhesions which he removed and was diagnosed with endometriosis (visually during surgery though pathology came back negative). My nerve pain was horrendous as well and I didn't make much progress after a year in PFPT. Over a year since surgery and still in PFPT but doing soo much better. Feel free to DM me if you have questions.

I had a very good experience with Dr. O'Connell and he takes insurance. He is in Texas but has a lot of patients that travel to him.

Hello! Yes! I had surgery at Dallas Medical City done by Dr. O'Connell, and he's incredible! I felt so well taken care of by him and his team. I met other patients in the waiting rooms who had travelled far and wide to see him. I travelled from the suburbs. I hear good things about Dr. Haverland as well—she just started up her own practice and was unavailable at the time that I was looking for a surgeon.
Check out the facebook page "North Texas Endometriosis Support Group" for TONS of info on doctors in the area.

I’ve had two surgeries with Dr. O’Connell. I think he does the ultrasound to look for any obvious issues like ovarian cysts. I didn’t have to have any additional scans to schedule surgery.

I had a consult today and was finally taken seriously!
Hi endo friends. I had a consult with a doctor that I read about on here (Dr. Anthony O’Connell in Dallas) today and I left wishing I had seen him years ago. He listened, validated my pain/feelings, explained everything extremely throughly, was understanding, and just overall a genuinely kind doctor who clearly wants to help. He spent over an hour talking with me, reviewing consult/sonogram notes, explaining all options. He did another ultrasound for me and found several things that my previous tech had missed. I was mind blown. This guy knows his stuff, and I feel totally comfortable proceeding with surgery. I got that scheduled for next month and will definitely report back with my experience.
Overall I feel great- it’s so nice just feeling HEARD and not dismissed, and not just told birth control is the only thing I need. If you’re near Dallas (or even if you’re not) I definitely recommend this provider.
(He’s also a Nook doctor, but there’s plenty of other groups on Facebook where you can read positive things. Even his Google reviews are stellar.)

He was excellent! Truly a gem of a doctor who spends plenty of time with each patient going over history and options. You can tell he genuinely cares about his patient’s wellbeing and I feel like that’s hard to find these days. Even my husband was impressed. We scheduled surgery for the following month, but I found out at the preop that I was pregnant…so it’s canceled for now lol. Gonna have this baby and then see if I still want to go the surgical route.

Wow! I really wonder what they're going to find on mine. And great to hear he was still down for surgery even with no endo being found on the ultrasound or MRI. I can't wait to see him!

I’ve been seeing Dr. Anthony O’Connell for years. He is genuinely the sweetest person and will go above and beyond to make sure you feel comfortable and knowledgeable. Had my second surgery with him (3rd total) and everything went great! The hospital loves him as a doctor too, so when you get scheduled for surgery, the staff will speak really highly of him. I know if any emergency happened, he’d be there immediately to help.

Dr. Anthony O’Connell! He’s performed 2 of my surgeries. It’s a really small office (him plus nurse and wife) but they’re all the sweetest people. He truly listens and is very empathetic, he loves telling stories (lol), but he really is very knowledgeable and kind. Sometimes the wait is long to get an appointment but you can get on the cancellation list. I know that if an emergency ever happens, he’s available if you need him.
Even if you don’t choose him, please don’t ever settle for a doctor. You deserve someone who treats you respectfully and with kindness.
