I am also in Colorado in the front range area. My cousin also has endo and she had surgery with Dr. Brian Nelson, like the previous comment. I'm currently going to see him as well because he did such a good job with my cousin. He's who I would recommend and who I am trying to see. It's really hard to find one in Colorado! I wish you the best of luck!

HA! I also have a blue Cross hmo. I just went to my normal doctor and said I found this specialist, write me a referral please and she did. I've been super lucky. If you need Nancy's Nook on Facebook is a great resource for finding a doctor in your state. I know for Colorado the one I am seeing is Dr. Brian Nelson, we're still not sure if he's in-network but I don't care at this point. I'm in too much pain all the time. I really hope you can get some help. Here are tricks I use. I take my mother with me to my appointments. 1. is because I get treated better if there's another witness and 2, she can remember things for me and ask questions. You just need to be assertive and say this is what I want which can be really hard.

I totally understand. It just boogles my mind and then people ask me why I never go to the doctor and I'm like why should I? They're not going to help. It took a lot of me to go and I was told by GI once I mentioned endo that he kinda knew about it but didn't and washed his hands of me. It's so aggeravating and I feel like I know more about endo than most doctors do! I would totally go see the Nook one\~ If you're in Colorado I would recommend Dr. Brian Nelson. He's awesome! He's who I'm seeing! It was so liberating to have a doctor that understood. Like I have anxiety and doctors stress me out to the max so when they take my blood pressure and pulse they're always high because like I'm very very stressed. When I went to the specialist and told the nurse about it, she was like oh it's all good we'll just talk and then i'll take it and It was.. so amazing. And I have to say I was lucky when I went because I already knew I had endo. The NP was like you've done the hardest part already,

I had surgery with a different doctor but I'm still in pain. I'm on a waiting list that looks to be in November or December. However, my cousin did have surgery with him and he helped her so much. She has stage 4 and her bladder and uterus had become fused together and compromised her kidney function. It was an intense and extensive surgery and required help from another surgeon but he was willing and able to ask for help to help her. His NPs are extremly knowledgable and helpful and they don't make you feel rushed at all. i have never had such a great appointment and it was just the best doctors experience I've ever had. Which is great because doctors give me panic attacks.

It's ok. My first surgeon only did ablation but Dr. Nelson is an excision specialist and like all he does is work with endo patients. I really hope you can find someone one to help you. I also know there's another Dr. in Durango but i'm not sure what he's like.

Sure! It's Dr. Brian Nelson out of Longmont. He's very amazing and does excision surgery and will bring in other specialists for surgeries. I have met his NP and she was the most amazing medical profession I've ever met. I had an hour and a half appointment and she spent an hour with me. I know that they are booking for out for appointments with Dr. Nelson but you can probably get into see his NP quicker.

I guess it depends where you want to go. I am getting surgery done with Dr.Brian Nelson but he's based in Colorado. He is willing to work with other specialists to save organs and does surgery on the bowels and even diaphragm. He saved my cousins kidney after her endo had fused her bladder and uterus together and caused her kidney to start to fail. He also reconstructed her organs and removed her stage 4 endo. I have only heard good things about him but his wait for surgery is 9 months to a year.

I would recommend doctor Brian Nelson out of UCHealth in Longmont! He did my second surgery and I’ve got my life back. He is very very busy and had a waiting list so you’ll likely see his pa. He is a great surgeon but he does feel a bit rushed during appointments. However his team know what they are doing and were some of the best I’ve had.

I had doctor Nelson for my surgery last year!! He is a great surgeon and knows what he is doing. However, he had been swamped and his personal time with patients isn’t the best. If you’d like there is a Colorado endo group in Facebook, if you have it, where you can read more experiences about him. This was my second surgery for endo but first with him. I’ve been over a year post op and my life is so much better. There are a few other surgeons in Colorado. I know of a Kaiser doctor and one in Durango. I would recommend that Facebook group.

I did not lose any of my reproductive organs. I was luckily able to keep all of them but I did have Deep infiltrating endometriosis along the front and back of my uterus, one of my ovaries, my Pouch of Douglas, bladder, and bowels. Doctor Nelson is very good in making sure that if he can't handle something he has help. My cousin, who was how I found Nelson, had endo that fused her bladder and kidney together. It was causing her kidney to not function properly. They did one surgery to clean out the endo when they saw the issue and had to do another surgery about six months later with a urologists' specialist. However, for my surgery, he did everything and is skilled to handle most endo. I had about a three hour surgery and the recovery was about six months for the full internal stuff. I was not offered a video but I did get pictures. I think the video is a great idea and you should for sure do it! Nothing is too personal for me. This is a hard journey that I still struggle with an

He does! I will say that I didn't see him at my first consultation either. I did see him for pre and post op but I also did mine last August during Covid. I know he has been a bit overwhelmed with patients and staff changes so his bedside may not be the best or he might seem tired or distracted. However, this didn't bother me too much because the entire process for surgery was night and day compared to my first surgery with a different doctor. I just wanted to warn you that he is a great surgeon but he might seem tired during appointments. I had my surgery at Boulder Hospital and they were amazing! All the staff I worked with knew doctor Nelson and about his patients. They were so understanding and kind. I will say i could do light walking probably within four weeks? However I didn't really try any real exercise until at least 8 weeks, but i did not feel fully recovered until about six months later. I think this might have been due to the fact that this surgery was only a year aft

He’s done everything from exams to surgery to pain management, he’s very friendly and good at what he does. :)

A Year After Surgery Hello all :) I am 25, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Endometriosis in September 2021. After years of hell and on again off again debilitating symptoms, I finally had my answer. However, after undergoing my first surgery to remove an endometrioma at that time I very rapidly got worse. I spent 3-4 months doing multiple ER Trips, on pain medication almost all the time. So many nights just spent in agony on the bathroom floor, so many entire nights spent in the ER being told nothing could be done. I get insanely sad just trying to remember it. December 2021, I had my first excision surgery alongside a hysterectomy, left ovary removal, bowel resection basically and my appendix removed with Brian Nelson at UC Health in Longmont, Colorado. He is a Urogynecologist that also specializes in Endo removal. He found that my endo was a lot worse than the regular gynecologist had said. My appendix was destroyed and on the verge of appendicitis (confirmed by pathology) my rectum was being deeply infiltrated but he was able to remove it all. My left ovary was obliterated and stuck to my colon, endo was all over my diaphragm which explained the chest pain I had that no one else could figure out. My uterus was bulky, covered in endo on the outside and I did not want kids and we both agreed that if it was bad when he got in there it would/should be removed. And so it was. (And yes I’m aware that a hysterectomy isn’t a cure.) Recovery this year has been the hardest thing I’ve ever done, mentally and physically. I am just now getting my strength back. Just now really truly getting back to life. Was put on depression/anxiety medication because of all the trauma of those days. So many days I just didn’t think I’d get through it even after surgery. However, I rarely have bad days now. Very few and far in between. Those bad days hurt because I am reminded of the illness and what it can do. But I’ve had No complications, no prolapse, weight gain (that wasn’t my own doin

Dr. Brian Nelson at UC Health in Longmont Colorado. He is a urogynecologist who specializes in Endo. He was very understanding and did not push back at all when I told him I’d probably want a hysterectomy although I’m young. Ended up not owing anything for my surgery cause he knew how much pain I was in and I wasn’t working so after insurance budged (when they wouldn’t cover anything for my surgery he pushed back until they did) and covered some he waived the rest!

This happened my first surgery, gyno missed a lot of my endo. By the time Dr. Nelson was in there it was a lot worse than what she noted! A lot of gynos aren’t trained to spot what endometriosis can look like but Dr. Nelson specializes in it and how to care for it/remove it in all areas. Even can do bowel resections if necessary! Took it off my diaphragm as well. I also had to travel a little to see him and they’re really accommodating and understanding and will do everything remote up to the surgery date! I hope you get the relief you deserve and answers!

Care in Colorado Anybody from Colorado that would be willing to share their experiences? I had my first surgery with a gynecologist In 2019 at the Women's Clinic. I didn't know any better at that point. He used ablation and I never had any relief, but I got the diagnosis. Then in July of 2020, I had surgery with "specialist" Dr. Brian Nelson in Longmont. He was suppose to only use excision but used ablation to burn a spot off my diaphragm, which is a HUGE no no. I had continued problems after surgery with him, including Hydronephrosis and he was very, very dismissive. Do not recommend. Feb of 2022 I had surgery with Dr Richie Richoff Delara and cardiologist Dr. Robert Meguid. Cardio was called in to assist on a possible VATS procedure and diaphragm resection from the damage in 2020. There was also damage to one of my ureters and validation of everything I had been trying to tell Dr. Nelson. They did find more Endo on my diaphragm as well, but did not think it was worth the risk of doing the VATS procedure at the time. Fast forward to April...I'm having chest flares already. I was already disappointed they decided against the VATS, now I'm upset. I went specifically to her for this procedure and that's why she called in cardio. Now, cardio won't go back in until I've ruled out other reasons for the chest pain. I'm so upset, I know my body and I know what a flare feels like. So now I'm wondering where to turn? I've heard Dr. Cook in Durango, Colorado is very, very good but it's all out of pocket and they want 15k up front. Do I do the free consult with the CEC? Colorado just seems to really be lacking decent care for Endo patients.

omgggg. I bet you if we compared notes, we both have basically the same small paragraph of crap. I've compared with a few others, they are all very similar. I don't even feel like he cares about our well being. he had EIGHT surgeries the day of my surgery. my surgery was also only 58 minutes long, as opposed to the five hour surgery I had in February. and I too, was under the impression that he was just the greatest, and I should have done more research. he told me conflicting things about my surgery as well. oh and Endo in "all the usual places". he loves that line. Hi! I suffered with severe endo for 8.5 years, had one major laparoscopic surgery (after trying depot lupron for 6 months) and a second surgery to remove a 2.5 inch endo cyst on my ovary. After these surgeries, I would be on constant birth control to avoid having periods as that is how it can spread (it can without it, too, it just reduces the chances). Finally, spring of 2023 at 32 yo, I got excruciating pain and heavy bleeding out of nowhere. Went back to the doc and she said “surgery or IUD” and like hell will I ever choose the latter. So I was set up with a doctor that not only would do the hysterectomy, but EXCISE the endo and built up scar tissue (most doctors ablate it). Dr. Nelson in Longmont, CO, is one of the few docs in the country that do this. A few months later, I had my excision and total hysterectomy. The goal was to save the ovaries, but my endo was too severe that they couldn’t save them. I’m on Premarin now because of it. Also, I did give consent before surgery th

I was just about to turn 33 when I got mine. Went through two endometriosis surgeries at 24 and 26, went into what we thought was remission for years as I was on continuous birth control and then it came back with a vengeance spring of 2023, heavy bleeding out of nowhere and excruciating pain. FINALLY the doctors agreed to do the surgery. Dr. Brian Nelson with UC Health in Longmont, CO, is one of the few doctors nation wide that will do an actual excision, not ablation, or endo tissue. And he didn’t care what age I was, he just wanted to do what was medically best for me (and honestly necessary). He and his team are absolutely wonderful and I’m so thankful I found them.

I’ve also been curious about Dr. Nelson as I’ve been delaying surgery with him for over a year. I’m in excruciating pain, tho, and desperately want some relief. He recommended a full hysterectomy which is what freaks me out. I’m not ready for that but maybe a partial? He agreed that if I want to keep my cervix then he’s more than happy to oblige. My pain has now spread to my kidneys since I first saw his nurse so I feel like I shouldn’t delay much further. Looking forward to more responses hopefully!

Do you have your surgery date? I am waiting to hear from the surgery scheduler and also getting nervous. I have felt well the last few days so of course, now I'm questioning my decision. It's the same cycle I've been going through for years. But when I realized I only have about 2-4 "good" days per month, I knew it was time. He answered every single question I had, we made some agreements on some of details around surgery (keeping ovaries, one ovary, none), etc. I just keep thinking back to how grateful I am to even have him close enough to have as my surgeon, that he is in network, and trying to remind myself that it is a blessing and that I need this for a reason. I want my quality of life back. I left my appointment and realized after that I have a few more questions, I am planning to ask those at my pre-op. Thinking of you and please know that all of your feelings are totally valid!!

I'm ok with him having less than preferable bedside manner if he makes up for it in skill. They've already sent me some post/pre op paperwork and it does mention shoulder pain. I'll be sure to have my heating pad handy I practically live with it anyway! Nice to hear you we're able to stop your painkillers so soon. In the past the nausea caused by Vicodin is worse for me than the pain it's treating. Your experience with rough bowel movements is similar to mine so I'll make sure to start the stool softeners right away. I know I've already thanked you but I must thank you again. Frustrated... I've been suffering with endo for 10 years now, and it's gotten significantly worse in the past 2 years. I haven't been able to find a doctor or specialist to perform the lap for me. I was finally referred to Dr. Nelson in Longmont, CO who is amazing at what he does and within my 5 minute consultation, they knew I needed to get this surgery done and showed a lot of concern. I walked out of that appointment crying tears of joy that someone is finally going to do something to help me. The downside is...he is so booked up with surgeries he can't even get me scheduled he's so far booked out. At this point it's probably happening in late August/early September and we're moving to Durango in a few months, which is about a 7 hour drive to Longmont. I'm planning on enrolling at Fort Lewis in the fall but I don't want to fall behind if I have to go all the way to Longmont for surgery and who knows how long it may take for me to recover. I'm in so much pain everyday, it's ruining my life. I don't know how I'm supposed to wait that long for my lap... I just needed to rant. I'm so sick of this.

I live in Breckenridge, CO but frequently travel to Denver to see my pelvic pain specialist Dr. Gerig who is amazing and my gyno is Dr. Nelson in Longmont. Each PT session is about $120 before insurance covers it, which is definitely expensive but if you can even get a few sessions in to do a pelvic exam and have him/her reduce the inflammation it’s super helpful. I only go so frequently because I have an ongoing back injury from playing sports and skiing, I don’t always go in for my pelvic pain. I’d say every other session is for my pelvic floor. I am on birth control, it’s called norethidrone and it’s stopped my periods entirely so I don’t get flare ups as frequently. It really has been helpful but the side effects are slowly starting to get to me (depression, anxiety, acne, etc.) and if I miss a day I’m in excruciating pain. Honestly, the muscle relaxants haven’t done that much for me, if your liver is inflamed I wouldn’t seek the baclofen like you said. I’m sorry you’re struggling

Agree with others that there is no “cure,” but I went to Dr. Brian Nelson in Colorado and he is excellent. He has extensive experience in pelvic surgery and endometriosis. His bedside manner leaves a bit to be desired, but his PA Melinda Sharkey was incredible and supportive the whole way. Dr. Nelson caught all the harder-to-see endo that my first surgeon missed and I am largely pain free for the first time in years.

Yes. He has done both my most recent surgeries, his newer nurse practitioner has been amazing - Melinda- she assists with surgeries and you will likely talk with her some, Dr Nelson has gotten more distant in my opinion (and reading others seems the same) with bedside manner and communication. With that said I had a really excellent surgical outcome both times with him, and his nurses. He did my hysterectomy and excision twice. He comes off as cold sometimes but believes you and your pain.

I will forever be grateful for Dr. Nelson. He did my first diagnostic lap with excision. I cried with relief when I woke up & he confirmed I have endometriosis. he validated me incredibly while also stressing that it will return & he will be there for me. three years later Dr. Nelson did my second procedure. this was a unique situation because I had a hysterectomy at age 28 but retained 1 ovary to avoid hormone replacement. he fully supported my decision & did not try to convince me otherwise or push for children like many docs do. a few years later I ended up in an emergency situation with ovarian torsion. technically it shouldn't have been able to happen by the way he secured that last ovary, but it did. he was out of town, still did a video call with me, helped me with the horrible triage gyno who treated me like a piece of dirt. I was there for 3 days & almost lost it all. he saved my life without realizing it.
