Im not an expert on this, I just wonder if looking up the videos (that me and my sister watched and really were helpful to us) from Dr Nicholas Fogelson & Dr Shanti Mohling. Theres vids on youtube that are more in depth. But i liked their vids and explanations of endo stuff on their Instagrams. Im actually getting surgery tomorrow morning with Dr Mohling, has been THE BEST.

Okay i hope this is okay to do, I really want to recommend the doctors me and my sister went to! I hope i’m not stepping on any toes, I also know this isnt available to everyone to travel and pay for out of state or out of country (idk where u are) But i just feel for you and i hope its okay to recommend them, or at least help you do more research! My sister and i watched their youtube videos on surgery and explaining complicated surgeries for endo, and i really liked their instagrams too with more pics and videos of surgeries and I could just really tell their skill level and confidence and they really seem to know what to do, no matter how “bad.” They are in Portland Oregon. Dr Fogelson and Dr Mohling. They are endo specialists, on nancys nook i believe, and also part of iCareBetter so they have surgeries videoed and are proven to he experts. They also take on cases that are too hard or that other surgeons couldnt do or whatever. They do excision of endo, and i really believe if ther

My sis and i traveled to portland oregon for the specialists there. My sis did a lot of research and found them. Dr Nicholas Fogelson and Dr Shanti Mohling in Portland. They are amazing and helped us so much. I had my surgery for endo excision a week and a half ago. and im doing really good. She found everything, i think other doctors would have missed it. She is the only doctor that listened to me and found what im talking about after 15 years of doctors not listening to me.

(im not an endo specialist or doctor.) I would say its probably not, however! endo can be lesions, but it can also be hard nodules. Ive watched some of Dr Fogelsons and Dr Shanti mohling’s instagram and youtube videos. and they show surgery scenes, and ive seen peoples endo be hard nodule that you can feel i think, But idk if youd be able to feel from your stomach?? So i honestly dont know. I do totally recommend those two doctors in Portland, and recommend watching their videos. they are the best!

Ok friend i was just checking. thanks i dont know what all the words on this post mean, im not in oregon. But i did just go to portland last month for an endo specialist. I would highly recommend Dr Shanti Mohling. She is amazing, I have nothing but good things to say about her. She *immediately* found my endo spots and believed me. Also did the ultrasound herself and saw signs of adeno which is what i was thinking too bc i couldnt get the bleeding to stop. Did amazing on my surgery. Really went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. i wish i lived in portland bc i only want to see her. (oh actually her partner is awesome too, Dr Fogelson.) You can watch some of their videos on insta or youtube too. The surgery was done at Good Samaritan Hospital, and the hospital was super nice too.

I think i saw a clip of a surgery on Dr Fogelson’s instagram (endo specialist in portland) and he removes a bump on/in the vag i believe on the video. It was like a hard nodule if i remember right? i have no clue obviously if its the same thing you are dealing with…but wanted to say it bc maybe you will relate to it if you watch the videos? Disclaimer, im usually ok with the surgery videos but that one was a little tough to watch for me for some reason. but he did a great job. Actually he and his partner Dr Shanti Mohling are great specialists, Dr Mohling just did my endo surgery 3 weeks ago. They are the best.

Wow your story is insane, im so glad you got to Dr Mohling after all that. I hope you are doing better, as best you can. I wish i read your review of her before my surgery 8 months ago, BUT i didnt need it hehe because I read other good reviews of her, saw her surgery videos, and her instagram is amazing. Meeting with her i seriously saw evidence of her skill on the first visit. But still, your story would have helped, so anyone who reads this, look into her. She is serious that good. She believed me immediately, gave me several options, was very patient & kind ….like unbelievably compassionate and caring. went above and beyond for me. I felt so safe in her hands, & she did an amazing job. Finally got my endo diagnosis after 15 years. I cant recommend her enough.

I had a very similar experience with her, she really was THAT amazing and kind and Skilled. She could tell something was wrong by touching my stomach as well. Could see with the ultrasound my suspicions of adenomyosis were likely, since my uterus was not shaped evenly. She was super thorough and even asked me as i in too much pain to think clearly, if i realized that i had more of a pain reaction on my left side. she then demonstrated for me & sure enough i was in more pain on my left side but she guess both sides probably had endo. I also complained of pain in my butt and i could feel a spot every time i pooped. the shooting butt pain and bruise feeling was almost every day for 3 years by then. (i had had a colonoscopy but they found nothing basically) She checked and said she felt a spot also and likely was endo. I was so so so relieved to finally be believed and validated. and i hadnt even had the surgery yet. i felt in really good hands. I had my surgery last year September 2

mine was Stage 2 and it was about 4 hours…. and doesnt sound as complicated as yours will be. idk the specialist i saw and her partner were so skilled and confidant, im sure they would still preserve fertility while still excising the bowel and ureter area. (my specialist showed me video of the weird stretchy endo around my ureter area and how she took the time to carefully excise it…) I would suggest watching Dr Shanti Mohling (she was my surgeon in Portland) her instagram videos and a few youtube videos, and her partner Dr Nicholas Fogelson, his instagram and many youtube videos ….very educational, to me it proved how skilled they are, they confidently show their surgery videos and have been doing this for years so he even says that nothing is going to come as a surprise to him. Its okay to cancel the surgery and to not go with that doctor. in fact its more than okay. doing a surgery is a lot to put your body thru, just for them to look around and say yep you got it, but not do anything about it. Another thing to consider is if they arent even skilled enough to excise the endo, they are very very likely to not know what different endo types look like and are more likely to say “i didnt see anything, you dont have it.” many have went to drs claiming to be endo soecialists and they said they dont have any endo, later to go to a real endo specialist and its confirmed. Really going with this doctor is a waste of time money and your health. I am so sorry vfor what you have been through. Cruel and inhumane. I highly advise ditching your shitty obgyn. As far as follow up, you have what is described as stage 4 endo. If you are financially able to and the pain ever returns, you should go to a specialist who can make sure to take everything out. I went to Shanti Mohling in Portland and she was awesome. For planning purposes, it's easiest to choose a specialist if you have a PPO, especially like blue cross/blue shield. I have learned the hard way to always ditch a doctor if they don't believe me or don't seem inclined to want to investigate. All of your anger is justified. I will send you healing vibes.

So you have biopsy results showing a confirmed case of Endo? I second the suggestion to ask them to formally document it in your chart that even though you have a prior diagnosis, they won't do a surgery. If that doesn't work definitely find a new doctor. You are absolutely right to think you have it. I'd really suggest findjng an exicision specialist who is also able to find and diagnose thoracic endo. If you have the funds i highly recommend Shanti Mohling in Portland, she is awesome and very thorough and found stuff my first surgeon missed, including some on my diaphragm . With someone like her you don't need a referral. Make a post asking for good docs in your area.

I just had surgery with Dr. Mohling and she is amazing. I can't speak to the stage 4 thing bc I'm not that far but she doesn't seem to really rely on hormonal suppression in the first place. I saw a post on her insta where she basically says it may be useful for some ppl but it doesn't slow progression. For her, the best treatment in all scenarios is removing the bad tissue. It's like treating cancer and the idea is if you take out all of the affected tissue it doesn't grow back. For what it's worth she was cheaper than Dr. Sinervo too. I paid her $4000 and I think I paid the hospital an additional $3000? A surgery that involved bowel or vats would probably cost more tho. She is super kind and awesome. Definitely recommend

This is the answer. Ideally someone who does laproscopic endo surgeries every week. Especially make sure it's someone who is familiar and comfortable with bladder excision which can be tricky (I had mine with Shanti Mohling who I love). Make a separate post asking for recommendations in your area. Also, pls know that most regular gynos know fuck all about Endo. I would take what they say with a grain of salt. Hell, a bunch of them think a hysterectomy is a cure which isn't how it works.

I'm sorry for what you are going through. I saw an amazing surgeon in Portland makes Shanti Mohling. It cost me about 7,000 but I imagine it would cost much more for someone without American insurance. I have heard there is a really good Endo surgeon in Mexico but idk his name but I assume that would be way more affordable. A shitty doctor will remove your colon bc that requires less skill. A good specialist can often do a bowel resection and avoid the need for a colostomy bag. If I were you I would ask for the ovarian mass removed and ask them to just biopsy the colon for now so you can get more info Again, sorry for what you are going through

Where are you located? Maybe ppl here can help you find a doctor who will be more kind and actually willing to help you. My surgeon was Shanti Mohling. It was expensive but if that is possible for you she could help. As far as lowering your estrogen, there are actually supplements that can do that. I took milk thistle plus NAC, 1 pill of each 2x day. . I would suggest doing it under the care of a naturopathic doctor so they can make sure your estrogen doesn't get too low bc that can cause issues as well. I saw a naturopath named saru bala. Supplements controlled my crazy fibroid bleeding for years before I got surgery. It was really effective. I use da Vinci labs milk thistle and pure encapsulations NAC. If you can't do birth control this is worth a try.

I second the idea of approaching from multiple modalities. If one of your problem areas is during your period, I highly recommend red raspberry leaf tea. get it in bulk, take a handful each day and steep it covered in boiling water for 15 mins. Do this every day of your period and then triple it during your actual period. It made my cramps go from a 10 to a 4. I still toom ibuprofen of course, but not as much. For what it's worth, my surgeon, Dr. Shanti Mohling, has a great Instagram account and she posted the other day that she never pushes hormonal birth control for Endo bc according to her there are no concrete studies saying that it actually works. She's awesome. I had blue shield PPO. Idk if it would work with blue shield hmo but you should call and talk to her assistant, she is super helpful and used to navigating all of that. Highly recommend. She found Endo on my bladder and diaphragm and at my request did a hysterectomy too for adenomyosis. It's so amazing to be pain free

So my insurance was blue shield PPO and it covered a significant amount of it. I think with co paysto hospital and the amount I paid to Mohling it was probably about 6 or 7 after all was said and done. Blue shield covered most of the hospital stuff but I had to pay a percentage which I think was about 3,000, and I think I had to pay mohling 4,000, but she later refunded me 1,500 bc she got some from my insurance.

I just had excision surgery done by her three weeks ago. She texted me the day after and again a few days after to make sure I was recovering ok. Her medical assistant Rennie is amazing too! I email with any questions about recovery that I have and she responds very quickly. I highly recommend her if you’re looking for an excision specialist and a doctor who will validate you and your pain, address all of your concerns, and be so sweet and loving along the way.

She’s an expert and does a very thorough and precise job during excision. I was diagnosed with stage 3 endo and she was able to excise everything. I had a fibroid on my bladder caused by a previous ablation “treatment” for endo, and she was able to remove that without having to cut into my bladder. She also performed an appendectomy, salpingectomy and hysterectomy at the time of my excision. I also had adenomyosis. She is the kindest and most caring doctor I have ever had the pleasure of being a patient of. I highly recommend her.

She performed complete, thorough excision, appendectomy, salpingectomy, and hysterectomy. I also had adenomyosis. She was able to remove all endo, as well as a fibroid on my bladder caused by ablation during my previous lap, and I didn’t have any complications or issues with completely removing endo from my organs. My right ovary was fused to my uterus at the time of surgery and it had multiple cysts on it. She was able to detach it from my uterus and remove all the cysts and save my ovary, which I was worried she wouldn’t be able to.

Dr Mohling is a wonderful, amazing person and a very skilled surgeon. Recovery has gone well and without any complications. She gave me my life back. I have stage 4 endo and I had severe adenomyosis which was the reason for the hysterectomy. My appendix was not affected by endo, but she recommended removal because it’s very common for endo to take over the appendix and it can turn cancerous, most of my worst pain and cyst ruptured are also on my right side, so I always had the concern of not knowing if it was a cyst rupture or appendicitis, so I agreed and let her remove it. I’m glad I did.

I’ll be getting what you got plus the removal of my right ovary because from the ultrasound she did she wasn’t entirely sure that that could be preserved but the left one she’s going to try to save. My cherry on top is the gallbladder. Her co-surgeon that’s doing the vats procedure had me do a gallbladder scan because of my pain patterns and turns out I have a very hyperactive gallbladder so the gallbladder might be going too. She is worth every penny and has a lawyer of staff to submit your case/claim to your insurance. She takes video and pictures of her surgeries and this is all she does - she is not doing any general OBGYN care - her entire practice is complex cases. Lastly - where she does the surgery at Legacy Good Samaritan in Portland was exceptional the two times I was there for surgery - from the people that admit you, nurses and anesthesiologist are wonderful.

Hi 👋🏻 here to say yes and it is not as rare as people think. I had Endo on the bottom side of my diaphragm that was treated during my first surgery by a specialist who does complex cases like it all the time. I also had what felt like breathing changes and major changes in my capacity to do anything physical (like anything more than walking and housework was VERY challenging). Check out Dr.Binghams work www.extrapelvicnotrare.com Also Dr.Shanti Mohling - she has an extensive Instagram where she talks all about Endo on the diaphragm and in the thoracic cavity. Does your OB work with co surgeons? Typically a general or thoracic surgeon is needed alongside your doc for these types of surgery. At the very least make sure she is taking photos of everything even if she isn’t seeing anything. And that she moves the liver aside to look around. Even better if she can do a video. That way you have documentation in the event you need to see another specialist.

I hear great things about both of them so honestly you probably can't go wrong Idk what Sinervo's method is but one thing you could do is look into how they perform their surgery and decide how you want yours done. I had excision and a total hysterectomy performed by Mohling. She does her surgeries with the Da Vinci XI robot, which has a faster recovery time. Some doctors do their surgeries by hand. It's all about what you feel comfortable with - I trust a robot to be more precise and less invasive but it's technically a little controversial. Mohling was phenomenal, I'm only 2 weeks post op and I feel better than before my surgery already. I went with Mohling because her clinic wasn't as fertility focused as some clinics are, and as a 24 yr old female I was really sick of doctors urging me to have a kid so we could get my uterus out. Unfortunately doctors can call themselves endometriosis specialists without actually being one (I saw two before finally landing in the care of Dr. Shanti Mohling, a very famous excision specialist). Basically what you're looking for is a "gynecologic surgeon" who specializes in "excision of endometriosis and pelvic surgeries". That will help you weed out the doctors who are not qualified excision surgeons. Even if you don't want to "save" your uterus (I didn't care about mine either), you will want an excision specialist because they are the best at handling adhesions and endometriomas. Excision surgeons will remove ALL of the endometriosis adhesions and lesions and such, which is what causes pain and symptoms. Any that is left behind by an incompetent surgeon can leave you with pain and issues! Aside from that, my surgeon warned me that some doctors who aren't as skilled will accidentally destroy blood flow to remaining ovaries, eventually killing them and sending you into surgical

Oh absolutely. So I'm located nearby Portland, OR where her clinic is and I happen to have REALLY good out of network health insurance so I was able to get like 60 percent of my surgery bill covered. The rest we are paying off in interest free installments. In total, my hysterectomy with excision and cystoscopy was $12k. I'm paying closer to $4k for it after all was said and done. She is an outrageously good surgeon too and I would have paid twice that if necessary. My life is completely different post op. It's important to note that I only had stage 1 endometriosis and my surgery was not even 3 hours long. I imagine a more complicated case taking longer and being more expensive. Also FWIW I also paid $4k for a regular ob-gyn to do a diagnostic lap beforehand, during which she didn't even treat my endometriosis (and thank goodness because she didn't know what she was doing). Which was totally not worth it other than getting the official diagnosis. I wish I'd just seen the specialis

I had surgery with Dr. Shanti Mohling and she said that when TTC it makes the most sense to have excision surgery before IVF. Because there is damage being done to your body by the endo and it needs to be addressed in order to successfully conceive and carry. It would be particularly heart wrenching not to be able to carry to term once conceived with IVF too, so that's something to think about. Getting it addressed before IVF retrieval makes the most sense if you consider how beneficial excision surgery is at making you healthier. My excision experience, 1 yr later Hi endo warriors, I am rapidly approaching the one year anniversary of my excision surgery next month 🧁 and I wanted to share my experience for any of you on the fence about excision surgery or maybe waiting for your surgery date and just trying to get as much information as possible. If you are not interested in having children this post may be especially interesting for you. I was diagnosed via laparoscopy by a general gynecologist in December of 2021. The gynecologist cauterized some of the obvious endometriosis lesions she saw and confirmed endometriosis via biopsy, but said she couldn't treat the extensive lesions around my cervix and suggested I try Orilissa. After extensively researching Orilissa and Lupron as well as excision surgery with a specialist, I decided to have a free consultation with Dr. Shanti Mohling at Northwest Endometriosis and Pelvic Surgery as I live near enough to Portland. I was so impressed with her at our consultation, which I did in person and involved an extensive physical exam and internal ultrasound. I decided to move forward with excision surgery instead of Orilissa. At this point I was in severe pain on a daily basis and struggling with my full time job, and Dr. Mohling wanted to get me into surgery as soon as possible. Due to the severe pain I was having from an inflamed cervix and my desire to permanently end my unbearable periods, she suggested a total hysterectomy - removal of the uterus and cervix. I got in on a cancellation for surgery a month later. It was scary but I did decide to move forward with the hysterectomy even though I was only 24 at the time, because I felt this would bring me the most relief. Dr. Mohling did not push me in any direction and the day of surgery she offered not to do the hysterectomy if I had any doubts. Fortunately I didn't and felt excited and confident. My surgery went perfectly, as did my recovery. I scheduled a month off work and I really did need a mo

Dr. Shanti Mohling at Northwest Endometriosis and Pelvic Surgery does gender affirming hysterectomies and treats pain caused from endometriosis through excision surgery. I was 24 when she did mine after I was told no by other obgyns. I am a nonbinary femme. Best decision of my life.

Wow thank you for sharing. Initially I was trying to see someone in NY, but after poor experiences I decided to contact her and booked my surgery right away. I wish I didn’t waste my money and time with other doctors. She seems so kind, not arrogant like Dr. V- which my husband described as a used cars salesman.

I’m seeing Dr. Shanti Mohling in Portland soon. She did a zoom consult and I booked right away, but the next spot was several months away. She’s very clear on cost in her website. Her office has a lawyer the gets you the maximum insurance benefit. She is out of network, but her fees are very clear. I would definitely check her out. If you search her name you will come across other people’s experiences here.

I’m from the NY area and I consulted with him and for several reasons decided not to preceded with him. I traveled to see my doctor and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. Best money I would ever spend in my life, and it half what doctor Vidali charges. My life is forever changed. Shanti Mohling in Portland, has excellent surgical skills and knowledge about the disease, and the best bedside manner. She even stayed with me and held my hand while I went to sleep. A ticket to Portland was fairly cheap, I booked a hotel room with a Kitchenette and grabbed food a Trader Joe’s before hand.

I was Dr. Mohling’s patient. Nothing detected on manual or ultrasound exam and I had very deep lesions, Stage III. I read her surgical notes and it looks like she was mining until she found the tooth cause of every problem I had. Everything she did was directly associated with my symptoms.

Yes, right away I noticed some major difference. I have several excision surgeons where I live and still choose her. Waited 8 months, but she’s worthy. I knew she was the right person for me since the initial zoom consult. She’s very kind, knowledgeable about the disease and confident about skills. She held hand while I went to sleep! Can you change jobs to hopefully have another plan?

I would be very careful with your next choice if doctor. You will get the same attitude, and wait times and pay about the same fees. The people that think they are the only ones that can operate and don’t try to learn more or accept any wrong doing. I kept having a bad feeling with consultations, I was trying to overlook things about these two doctors and thankfully I had a moment of clarity and started looking for another doctor. I ended up seeing Dr. Mohling in Portland, and it was the best decision ever and I also saved more than half the money I would’ve paid in NY. They do free case reviews.

Would you be willing to travel? I saw Dr. Mohling and Portland and I traveled to see her. Its was a breeze and a lot cheaper than seeing anyone in NYC. I found her on Intagram via one of her posts that literally described me. Someone posted they had a good experience with Dr. Veronica Learner in Manhattan. She operates at Lenox Hill and seems to take insurance. I see the problems with Nacy’s Nook, but I don’t go there to look for doctors. I read the patients experiences there and I look everywhere else online.

It’s so unfortunate you had a bad experience. Dr. Mohling is a great doctor and human. Her assistant, who schedules appointments, is also a medical assistant, and she is there to assist the doctor in all ways possible. I think most doctors have another person in the room when doing these types of invasive exams so there’s a witness and prevent claims of assault but also make things more comfortable for the patient. The assistant kept the speculum warm on a very cold day and handed everything to the doctor so that she could be done quickly. I found these things so thoughtful! I work in healthcare, and I know doctors are tired of dealing with insurance that are constantly lowering their reimbursements, not compensating them fairly and disputing any diagnosis or treatment they offer. I work in an unrelated field, but also fee for service office, and my doctors expect to be paid the day of service by the patient. They employ administrative staff to assist patients in submitting claim

I went here and saw Dr. Mohling. https://www.nwendometriosis.com I saw a few doctors before I saw her, but I complained about pain for over a decade before anyone took me seriously. I found out about endometriosis on my own; no doctor mentioned that word to me. I was never even offered an ultrasound until I saw an emergency doctor for a respiratory condition and casually mentioned my pain. I paid 1,000 for a consult with a specialist I ultimately did not get surgery with because I didn’t feel comfortable.

Dr Mohling in Portland is amazing Went to see her today. I’ve been dealing with debilitating bowel issues for the past year and a half. Excruciating periods since age 16, but have learned to cope with those - so it was the undiagnosable bowel issues that brought me to pursue an Endo diagnosis. I’ve followed Mohling on instagram for some time and she has always seemed pretty confident that she can predict a diagnosis via exam and ultrasound. So I made an appt w her. The exam was the most thorough I’ve ever had, she and her staff are so kind and truly caring. They know we have all been gas lit for years and taught to think our symptoms are normal. Just from touching my abdomen she could tell something was going on in my lower left. When she went in with the ultrasound, and pointed it to that area, I nearly jumped off the table in pain. She showed me that the left ovary is adhered to the surrounding tissue (an endo sign). When she did the same thing on the right side I didn’t feel pain and she showed me how mobile that one is. She also identified areas that were painful near my rectum before I even told her they were - she could just feel the adhesions/endo areas. She said she is 95 percent certain I have endo and that surgery will help me. The hour long appointment ended with her giving me a big hug and reassuring me that I have not imagined a thing - that my exam shows real disease is going on and I now have a path to feeling better. I wanted to post this just to draw more attention to how important it is to find the best excision surgeon you can. It makes such a difference.

I'm working on this right now. Her fee is $7500 - at least for my surgery, which she predicts will be about 3 hours. This seems pretty low to me compared to a surgeon in my area (Dr. Orbuch) who charges $30k for her fee alone. I'm in LA, of course lol. The hospital fees for Mohling can be around $60k, and that is what we need to get insurance to cover. So I'm looking for a plan that accepts out of state surgeries, then I would just have to pay my deductible and it would cover the rest. My current plan won't cover it. It would all be a lot easier if I was in state. Her office talked to my insurance and gave me some guidance on plans they've worked with in the past. I just love everything Mohling does. She performs a nerve block during surgery to help with pain, which I have never heard of any other surgeon doing. She is skilled enough to handle diaphragmatic endo and other complex findings. I really hope I can make it work but we'll see. If not I will have to start searching through

My ultrasound report I'm gathering my docs to possibly go to Dr. Orbuch for surgery - these are my notes from Dr. Mohling who did a thorough ultrasound exam on me (I couldn't get my insurance to work with her hospitals). I think it's interesting as I know many aren't able to detect anything on ultrasound. I'm basically hanging onto that 'possibly adherent' left ovary as my only solid proof of possible endo lol. Ugh, wish there was a more certain way of knowing before doing surgery! She did say she was 95% certain I have it, so that did provide me with some reassurance. I'm always gas lighting myself though. "Has classic symptoms of endometriosis including dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, dyschezia and chronic bowel distress. There is no nodular disease or "frozen pelvis" or obliteration of cul-de-sac, however posterior peritoneum has tight bands and is exquisitely tender suggesting disease. Left adnexa appear possibly adherent on ultrasound."

Oh ok cool me too! I'm in LA. I've seen Dr. Mohling in Portland - she is absolutely amazing. She is very talented at ultrasounds and can say with 95% certainty whether you have endo or not just from that and her pelvic exam. I would have gotten surgery with her but I couldn't get my insurance to cover her hospital fees. Now I'm going to get my lap from Dr. Orbuch in LA. She is just as talented as Mohling as a surgeon I think, but she doesn't do an ultrasound in office, even without that though she says she's 90-100% sure I have it based on my symptoms and the short pelvic exam she did + Mohling's ultrasound findings. I've heard great things as well about Dr. Stuparich in Riverside, CA - she is also the only one I've found on the west coast who takes insurance. Mohling and Orbuch are out of network, Mohling's surgery fees/appointment fees are about 1/4 as much as Orbuch.

Los Angeles/SoCal Doctor Recs Hi lovely endo girlies. I am posting this because I ran around for a year confused on who to see for my possible endo and even went to Oregon to see Dr. Mohling because I didn't think there was anyone in SoCal that was as qualified as her. Though I do love her and wish I could have went to her (my insurance wouldn't cover her hospital fees), I have found several amazing surgeons in LA/SoCal and want to share my experience with you all in case you're in the position I was in and confused about where to go. Dr. Iris Orbuch - highly recommend, but she is a cash-only doctor. If you have good out of network benefits, you can get reimbursed for the surgery fee. I have spoke to a couple women who really did get reimbursed so I know it is possible. But you have to be comfortable fronting the 5-digit cost and accept that you might not get reimbursed. My insurance flat out refused... so on to the next one for me. Cedars Sinai MIGS Team - Dr. Wright specifically is who I saw and who my surgery is scheduled with. Accepts insurance. There is a waitlist to be seen but once you're seen surgery can be scheduled 4-6 weeks out. She is super kind - one difference I noticed in her approach is she does not use the robot, but I don't know if this matters much at all. She said she completes hundreds of endo surgeries per year. Dr. Stuparich at UCR Women's Health - Accepts insurance. I'm still finishing up my series of appointments with her. She's one I wish I would have seen in the first place because she has her sonographers trained on specific ultrasound endometriosis protocol. They test the mobility of the reproductive organs and do a very thorough review of everything, it's very different than a standard pelvic ultrasound. The drive isn't fun if you're in LA but I think she is totally worth the drive and is very knowledgeable and kind. She can do most appointments on Zoom except for the ultrasound. Anyways - hope this helps someone, and thanks to

I’ll be getting surgery with her after my egg retrievals. I have stage 4 endo with large bilateral endometriomas, kissing ovaries, frozen pelvis, and bowel endo. She plans to do a robotic lap to excise all that with a colorectal surgeon present, preserving my ovaries and fertility. I’m doing the egg retrievals as an insurance policy pre surgery because it’s almost impossible to remove endometriomas this large without causing some damage to the ovaries. The endometriomas are inside the ovaries, not stuck on the side of them. My poor ovaries are like skins on the apples of 7.2cm and 4cm endometriomas.

Agree with this. For me, fertility preservation is very important. Dr Mohling spent over an hour with me discussing fine details of how she would preform the excision in such a way that would preserve fertility. She also recommended egg retrieval and freezing beforehand as an extra insurance measure, which I wouldn’t have thought to do on my own.

I saw Dr. Mohling. Her fee wouldn’t be the concern for you traveling out of country (my surgery was quoted by her as $6K estimate for me to pay, my insurance they estimated would pay an additional $1K — so $7K total). I think the hospital portion would be the concern. I don’t know what the cash price at the hospital would be, but I know they submitted $52K in charges to my insurance for the surgery facility fee, anesthesia meds, etc. There may also be more bills/fees remaining to be billed to my insurance. A consult with her is usually $400-700, so if you have that to spend you could ask her and/or her coordinator what hospital fees look like for an out of country patient. For what it’s worth I’m just over a week out from my surgery and they found and removed endo from so many areas and diagnosed me stage 4 DIE. I still hurt but hoping recovery continues each day and I eventually end up feeling much better than before.

Agree with all other commenters. I would not let a regular OBGYN surgeon do an endo surgery on me. Especially not with stage 4 DIE (which your report shows you have, and my excision surgery showed I also have). You need expert level care with someone trained in minimally invasive gynecological surgery (MIGS) who specializes in endo and works on complex disease, someone who regularly partners with thoracic and/or GI surgeons on consults and has the expertise to remove endo from bowel, bladder, diaphragm as those are all common areas with advanced disease. My surgeon Dr. Mohling in Portland was one such surgeon and did a great job on my recent excision and diagnosed me with stage 4 deep infiltrating endo. While Nancy’s Nook can be somewhat controversial in the endo community, I think looking for an expert MIGS excision surgeon on the list would be a good step.

Tell her you’re anxious at preop and she might be able to help with some medication for that. I also liked the scopolamine patch for nausea and she gave me an RX at preop for it to put on the night before surgery. The anesthesiologist was also super nice and I told him I was really nervous (almost crying) and he fixed that for me quickly. Also told him I struggle with nausea just generally so he gave me meds for that too. From there on it was almost surreal but not in a bad way, I just didn’t really feel the fear and anxiety as much and then was really sleepy and that was it…I remember the anesthesiologist rolling my bed back to the OR down the hall, Dr. Mohling and lots of other folks were in there and they had me scoot from my bed to the OR table and then I laid down there and Dr. Mohling held my ankle and told me it was going to be OK and then I just faded into being asleep within a few seconds. I saw an endo excision specialist (Dr. Mohling in Portland OR) and she removed endo from my cup de sac, ureters, and the internal side of my rectum which had a thick nodule. It’s possible to remove endo in the locations you have it, but I would only trust a true excision expert to do it, not a regular gyn. If other treatment methods for the symptoms aren’t working for you, a specialist surgeon might be the right choice.

Dr. Mohling did my diagnostic / endometriosis excision in April of 2024. Took her time and was able to remove Stage IV disease from my ureters, rectum, ovaries, etc. Found a lesion on my diaphragm and did not remove it, as I had been under anesthesia for a while at that point and there were some risks that we hadn’t discussed prior to surgery as we didn’t expect diaphragm disease. Just went back for a hysterectomy and to unstick one of my ovaries which had decided to re-attach itself to my ureter. I’m six weeks post op and recovering really well (though fatigue lingers for a long time after hysterectomy). I find her surgical fee to be very fair and reasonable. I like the responsiveness of her medical assistant/office coordinator. I really like that Dr. Mohling does her own transvaginal ultrasound in office and is an expert at reading the US live. If you’re outside the USA, hospital cost might be the biggest issue as that’s outside of Dr. Mohling’s fees.
