Seeing specialist after being dismissed by regular gyn once? Seeing specialist after being dismissed by regular gyn once? I’ve had the classic endo symptoms since I started menstruating at 14 (26 years old now). Painful periods, nausea, pain with bowel movement, thigh and back pain, etc. For reference I live in the US. I saw the gyn last year and brought my concerns up, and was dismissed without her even asking my symptoms or why I waned to discuss the possibility of endo. She didn’t even note in my chart that I asked about this. I found Dr. Liu (who works with Pelvic Rehabilitation Medicine in NJ) late last year from Nancy’s Nook, and I booked an appointment last week for mid-April. As I was on the phone with the person who made my appointment she told me to fax over the past two years of medical records as required by Dr. Liu. This made me immediately reconsider—am I being crazy for booking without any other indication by scans, tests, etc? I know that endo is only officially diagnosed by lap, and I just want to figure out what’s going on already without being dismissed and rejected over and over agin. The only record I have is that gyn who didn’t chart my question, and some urology visits due to recurring UTIs since July. I know I should probably call the office and let them know this but I fear looking like a complete idiot because I feel like this is something I should have known already. Has anyone ever booked an appointment with a specialist without having any prior testing done? Thank you all!

Yes I did! In fact my surgery is this Friday. My doctor (Dr. Lora Liu, of NY/NJ) is an angel on this earth. I was very sure that surgery was absolutely what I wanted to try, and my doctor was all for it. She seems to be extremely up to date on current standards and is also seems to take her patients' pain seriously. So I might just be very lucky that even though my results are normal she validates my pain and has a 95% certainty that I am dealing with endo.

Positive experience with Dr. Lora Liu (NJ/NY) Positive experience with Dr. Lora Liu (NJ/NY) Hi everyone! Yesterday marked 6 weeks since having surgery with Dr. Lora Liu, and I wanted to share my experience in case anybody was curious about making an appointment with her. For a bit of background, since I was 14 I had painful periods that made me miss school, and I would have heavy periods with clots. When I was younger I had an ultrasound but it was all clear, and honestly after that I never pursued anything because at the time I didn't know endo existed. After learning about endo in high school I just never felt like it would be worth it to find out if I had it because of reading so many stories about people being dismissed, and I just didn't want to put myself through that. Finally, last year I was at the end of my rope and discussed it with my gyn. She dismissed me exactly like I expected, and again just decided to deal with it. I looked up specialists in my area but only found a few, one being Dr. Liu. Well, when Bindi Irwin made her post about having endo, I decided to finally try a specialist. I called Pelvic Rehabilitation Medicine in Englewood NJ and much to my surprise I was able to see Dr. Liu as soon as 2 weeks from my call. I was super nervous because the person who made my appointment said I needed to bring all scans, MRIs, and other tests. I didn't have any, because of putting off pursuing a diagnosis. I almost canceled my appointment because I thought Dr. Liu would make me get all of these costly tests before helping me. I was so wrong! Dr. Liu was so compassionate, empathetic, and knowledgeable. I told her where my thinking was and why I didn't want to try medication after medication before ultimately getting surgery. I knew 100% I wanted a laparoscopy. She told me at the end of my appointment that she can't officially diagnose without surgery, but that she was 95% sure I had it. I wanted the surgery so she gave me information about what that would entail, and I set up an appointment to have a phone call with the surgical coordiator. After the phone call I received an email outlining the costs (Dr. Liu doesn't work with insurance so there are a few payment plan options), a list of FAQs, and information about the surgery. I finally picked a date, and had an ultrasound done before so Dr. Liu could see if there were any other issues such as fibroids before going in to surgery. She had surgery dates within two weeks of my first appointment however I chose one a month out because I had to get cleared by my cardiologist first which is impossible to get an appointment in (no shade to my cardiologist!) After surgery was booked I got an email detailing all of my pre and post op instructions. This was super helpful and so detailed that I had zero questions at my pre op appointment that was a week and a half before surgery. The surgery itself was as great as it could have been! Jersey City Medical Center is where I had mine, and the hospital and staff were all fabulous. Dr. Liu works with a urologist, Dr. Larish, and he was just amazing. He had wonderful bedside manner and even played me my favorite song on his phone while I was going under anesthesia. Dr. Liu called every day for about 3 days after surgery, and about a week later called with the pathology report and went over all those results. She excised 21 lesions all of which were endometriosis. She and Dr. Larish performed multiple procedures to make sure they didn't miss anything, inlcuding a D&C, ureterolysis, cystoscopy, and a ureteral injection with dye. I even had my appendix removed for suspicion of endo and it turned out to have endo after pathology examined it! They looked at the liver, diaphragm, bowel, literally everywhere. I know for sure that they removed every piece of endo in my body. When I was finished they spoke with my family who was waiting in the waiting room and took the time to answer all of their questions. Dr. Liu even remembered my parents and boyfriend's name from the pre-op appointment! Dr. Liu and Dr. Larish had very detailed operative reports which I was able to read in the MyChart app. They truly are experts in their fields, and my mom who works in the medical field was beyond impressed with Dr. Liu's post op report with how detailed it was. I feel like a new person! I am so glad I had the privilege of being able to make Dr. Liu's fees work with my budget (yes she is very expensive but I absolutely believe I got what I paid for with not one but two surgeons who carefully looked through my entire pelvis and removed everything). I was feeling well enough to go back to work 2 weeks after surgery (I personally would recommend 3 but I was able to do a lot by 2 weeks). 6 weeks out and the only evidence of surgery I feel is the vast improvement, I had two periods since surgery, the first was rough since that was 2 weeks from surgery, but the most recent one blew me away with the difference. I'm happy to share more if anyone has questions about Dr. Liu or Dr. Larish!

I called Pelvic Rehabilitation Medicine in New Jersey to book a consult with Dr. Liu. From the day I called it was less than 2 weeks for a consult. I took roughly a week to decide I wanted surgery so after reaching out to the surgical coordinator I was offered a list of surgery dates, the earliest being 10 days from that point. I chose to get surgery a month out from that date though!

Yes of course! If you don't mind I;m going to copy and paste an excerpt of a longer post I made when I was in week 6 of recovery. I am happy to provide more info though on anything involving surgery, recovery, etc, with Dr. Liu. Hi! I would love to share in a private message what I paid, but I thought I'd also post here for everyone who may see this in the future that Dr. Liu seems to not be affiliated with Pelvic Rehabilitation Medicine anymore and it looks like she may have her own practice now, so I don't know if what I paid would be what she charges anymore. I'm still happy to share but I might have outdated info at this point!

Dr. Liu is hands down the most amazing doctor I've ever had. And the entire staff at JCMC were absolutely fantastic. Everyone was so kind and helpful and calmed my nerves! I agree with the other poster that her pain medication schedule was more than enough as far as pain goes. But she is very prompt when you reach out with issues (I had some vomiting the day after surgery and literally as soon as I hit send on my email she called right away and had already called in the prescription for Zofran!) I'm not sure how long you are staying in the states but I would pack a ton of disposable undies, as I had some bleeding and changed my period underwear frequently, but I would hate to bring home a bunch of soiled undies. I also needed a bed rest pillow and neck pillow to support my body for a while. A heating pad would be a great idea to bring too! And I bought a bunch of coloring books too since I was planning on spending a lot of time in one place. Best of luck with your surgery!!

Hi, I am so incredibly sorry I didn't receive a notification for this comment! If you're still interested in hearing my update (today is officially 9 months post op) I would love to share my experience! The short answers to your questions is, I am doing better than I could have imagined. I chose Dr. Liu based on the fact that she works in NJ, at a hospital 40 minutes from me. Her reviews spoke for themselves, and I felt nothing but ease, comfort, and respect at my initial appointment with her. She was so thrilled that I knew what endo was (as opposed to Dr's in the past who would scold me for reading research and understanding it at all). She respected me first and foremost as a person and a patient. I also like that she automatically has a urologist there too, so I felt like I was getting the most out of my money by having 2 experts there. I was released the same day from the hospital!

If you look in my post history you can see my experience with Dr. Liu, but I’d also be happy to chat here if you have any questions! She was hands down the best doctor I’ve ever experienced, and I’m sure ever will experience, in my life. My surgery was 10 months ago now and I still feel like a new person. Best of luck with your journey!

That makes a lot of sense, it's such a huge decision! I liked Dr. Liu first and foremost because her reviews were literally glowing. The only negative reviews I saw were based on her cost for the initial appointment, which I understand. I didn't have other surgeons in mind when I booked an appointment, because she was the only one in my area with great reviews and who only does endo excision. I noticed that all of her reviews focused on the fact that she believes her patients right away and that she calls everyday after surgery to check progress. That was super important to me! I went into my consult with her knowing I wanted surgery, but I knew that if I wasn't comfortable with her I'd keep searching. My initial consult just made me feel so at ease, that I knew I wanted her right away. I liked also that I could get a surgery date essentially right away--she had dates from two weeks out from when I agreed to surgery! Another great thing was the day after my consult appointment, her surgical coordinator emailed me with a huge packet of info that answered nearly every question I had, including costs, recovery time, and she even included a shopping list of what to have after surgery! She was very transparent in the questions I asked, like I asked if certain PMS symptoms I had would go away and she was clear to set realistic expectations. She also didn't claim that surgery was a cure. I also love that she doesn't agree with the retrograde menstruation theory.

We definitely talked about it, and Dr. Liu is very supportive of whatever the patient wants! I wanted to try without medication after my surgery, so that's what I'm doing for now.

Seconding Dr. Liu, when I was in pre-op the nurse told me that people come from all over the country and has had patients from Canada fly in to get surgery with her! I’m still doing well over a year after surgery.

Yes I can message you! However I would trust whoever you spoke with from Dr. Liu’s office as my surgery was a year and a half ago now and she doesn’t work with PRM anymore so my info is definitely very outdated! I also didn’t have very good insurance (no out of network benefits) so my situation may be different than yours.

If you're specifically looking for a surgeon, I highly recommend Dr. Lora Liu. She was awesome with me, and really let me feel like I was actually the boss of my own body. I didn't need to explain myself much more than "these are my symptoms, I think I have endo, I want surgery." I can go into further detail if you like, and I also have a full review of my experience with her in my post history!

Dr. Lora Liu! I had surgery with her over 2 years ago now and it was so beyond worth it. Still symptom free, no pain, no nausea, and losing a normal amount of blood with each period. I have posts in my history detailing my experience with her if you want to read more!

Hi! When I had appointments with Dr. Liu they were all in-person so I cannot say how the phone consultation specifically goes. However I did not feel rushed at any appointment with her, and she was very caring and listened to all my concerns. She answered any question I had before I even asked and after I scheduled my surgery provided a packet of information with tons of advice and even a shopping list of medications to have on hand. I don't know if she still does that since mine was quite some time ago. I made sure to ask if she thought I needed to lose any organs (I wanted to keep my ovaries no matter what but did not care if my appendix needed to be removed), and I asked about what future fertility would look like. I believe I also asked about birth control after surgery. Because I knew Dr. Liu only does excision and works with a team I did not feel the need to ask about ablation, how often she does surgeries, and how she handles complex cases, but you could certainly ask those since the answers to those questions are important. I also asked about recovery time at my preop appointment. You could also ask about how follow-ups work, I did not have a follow-up which I was grateful for because she called everyday a few days after surgery to ensure I was doing ok, and would have hated to do an hour-long car ride for an in-person follow-up if I was doing ok all along! Good luck and let me know if you have other questions I can help with!

Liu or Dr. Larish!

Seconding Dr. Liu. Incredibly skilled and knowledgeable. I had surgery done by her June 2 and am willing to talk about my experience if you want!

Liu. I will start by saying she doesn't take insurance, I will PM you the fees and payment plan options I was offered.

Are you in the US? It took me years but I finally found a specialist in JUST Endo excision surgery. I found her through social media by following other excision experts. If not in the US, maybe try looking through who excision experts follow/share/teach. I’ve been impressed with Dr. Vidali and had my surgery this month with Dr. Lora Liu. Also, Dr. Seckin in NYC.

Recs for educational surgery videos Recs for educational surgery videos Hi all, I have been learning as much as I can about Endo but what has really helped me understand the anatomy of it is the narrated videos from actual surgeries. I watch Dr. Lora Liu (who did mine 3 weeks ago) and Dr. Vidali. But sometimes they’re so fast and are so used to it, I can’t grasp what parts are what. Has anyone found a video that narrates for a non-medical audience?

Go with your instincts and keep pursuing this. I hope gynos know more about bowel endo than they did when I started seeking relief ten years ago. I was diagnosed with IBS and did the low FODMAP diet (Monash U in leading the research and their app is great), which does help alleviate my bloating and gas symptoms. Had excision surgery a month ago and am hoping I don’t also have IBS but it’s hard to know yet. When I laid on my left side, I could feel twisting and cramping and it would sometimes release gas, as though something was trapping it in a normal position. I had Endo on my sigmoid colon and rectum. It had grown into the muscle. My Dr was in north Jersey, Dr Lora Liu, and she is very vocal about thorough searches. She suspected it was on my bowel (and ureters) and was right. She had a GI surgeon on her op team, too.

You aren’t alone! No one believed me about the pain levels (mom called me dramatic, doctors shrugged and gave me Rx for high dose Tylenol or said they couldn’t do anything for me). I just had my excision surgery this spring at age 40. (I had fantasies about keeping the tissue they removed and slapping people in the face with it, but my report will have to suffice.) My mom didn’t take me seriously about needing surgery until she read that a famous person (Bindi Irwin) had it. The Endo has likely caused a host of other health issues, for which I also get called lazy by my family. Why are people so unwilling to just LISTEN to us?!! It’s FRUSTRATING as all get out and I’m sorry you are going through it. My other issues have been GI stuff, mostly. Though I did have hip pain that was gone the minute I woke up from surgery. I didn’t even think the two were connected. I have been in a bad mental state at times and I know the feeling that life sometimes feels really undoable and that just going to sleep forever would be a relief. I found educational content on IG helpful—despite how much misinformation is out there. My surgery was done by Dr Laura Liu of NYC. Also heard good things about Dr. Vidali of NYC too. It took over ten years to get the diagnoses after a host of dismissive gynos and specialists. I find it really hard finding the optimism to look up new doctors YET AGAIN. Now, new Dr visits cause extreme anxiety. Keep coming to the community for support, there is always someone who wants to uplift and help. Feel free to ask me questions if you have them. ✌🏻

I’m sorry you are experiencing these symptoms. You are pretty young and if you’re pretty healthy otherwise, the chance it would be cancer I imagine would be very rare, whereas endo has a 1 in 10 rate. And that’s just the cases discovered and reported. Many wmn have reported hip to knee radiating pain, as endo lesions have been found on nerves, ureters, bladder, bowel wall, cervix—through both robotic and manual surgeries. I recommend Dr. Liu in NYC.

If your mom has it, that alone is a reason to be taken seriously. Add heavy bleeding and intense/atypical pain and any intelligent, empathetic, and informed gyno should consider you. The hardest part about gyno issues is finding GOOD help. A shocking amount of gyno’s and even “endo specialists” are misinformed on outdated info. Follow Dr. Laura Liu and Dr. Valenti (I think that’s his name, both NYC) on social media. My diagnoses took over 10 years and I did go thru several horrible, weirdly cruel “specialists” but had an amazing experience with Dr. Liu. Had my excision surgery at age 40. Stage IV. My earliest symptom was a severe pain (like razors scraping) within my entire pelvic region. I never got “cramps” which seemed localized to uterine area (below belly button, just above public bone, pressing inward) for others. This was a pain that radiated to my lower back. Turns out I had lesions on my bowel (long term GI issues began in my 30s) and behind the cavity behind the cervix, which is close nerves of the back. You sound younger and fortunately there is way more awareness. Famous people’s stories can help people take you seriously. Why they need to hear it from someone famous, I don’t know. But check out Padma Lakshmi and Bindi Irwin’s stories. Find good support wherever you can because not being believed and being dismissed by family, friends, and doctors was almost as bad as the monthly pain. Also, another really hard part is self-advocacy. Don’t go back to drs who are rude, who poke you to hurt you unnecessarily, who tell you there are “cures” (there currently aren’t), who say birth control can stop it from growing, or who make you feel bad for bringing it up. You deserve to find out if it’s Endo, and/or other related conditions like PCOS, adenomyosis, fibroids, or cysts. Finding what it isn’t, ruling things out, is part of figuring out what it is. Feel free to ask me more. I don’t want anyone to go as long as I did with that pain.

Something a doctor said to me really stuck with me. I was telling him my symptoms and then began self-doubting how bad it actually was, and he said something along the lines of “you deserve to know if this is or isn’t endometriosis.” No doctor had ever said anything like that to me. Don’t doubt your gut. Check out Dr. Laura Liu, I saw her and she is a fierce patient advocate.

First two days of period felt like someone was scraping a razor blade down my lower back and cervical nerve endings. Had excision surgery 2024, stage 4, Dr. Lora Liu (highly recommend her Insta for info), and it was in the cul de sac behind cervix. Felt the full pain of that when a horrible gyn specialist put his finger back there during an exam and pushed with what felt like all his might.
r/r/Endo Jan 20, 2026 +1 pts
My period pain was always the most intense in the lower back, which makes sense because in my excision surgery in 2024 they found in the cul-de-sac. There are so many nerves there and the pain radiated like you described. I’m on the east coast and was able to go to Dr. Lora Liu in NYC. Follow her on IG she posts a LOT of fierce advocacy videos, the most up to date info on the disease, bust myths (such as that a hysterectomy cures it—it doesn’t and there is no “cure” or way to stop growth with meds), and even shows her surgeries to explain the disease. What kind of surgery did you have? Leaders in the field say excision is the only way, not ablation. But Dr. Liu’s whole thing is that endo can be found ANYWHERE, which is why she uses a team of surgeons for other organs. She looks everywhere. In addition to it being in my cul de sac, it was on my bladder, bowel, ureter, and nerves impacting my hip. It took 6 months for the period pain to ease, but my hip pain went away and I can hold my bladder overnight. I am still having IBS and gas cramping issues, though. Sadly there is a lot of overlapping diseases that make pinpointing it hard. None of my Endo showed up on the MRI done by the preferred MRI team that does imaging specifically to look for Endo. Nothing on ultrasounds either. You aren’t crazy, and deserve to live without pain. I can’t give recs for your area but if you reach out to Dr Liu I think she does a free consult, which can alone be reassuring, and possibly lead to her network of drs who have her same approach.

“Patient never saw Dr. Liu — quoted $20k out of pocket which was unaffordable. Patient repeatedly calls her '#1 endo surgeon in NYC/NJ area' and praises her demeanor. Uses robotic surgery but patient (after initial skepticism based on Kanayama's claims) believes Liu does excision not ablation with robot. Chose not to pursue due to cost only.”

Honestly there was no post that inspired the question. I hated the way kanayama responded to my dm and kept saying a robot even with excision is using ablation and I’ve just been annoyed since. I am tired of endo and having no real solution to it sigh. But yeah I hate kanayamas demeanor but apparently he uses his “hands” for excision. And I LOVE dr. Liu’s demeanor but she uses robot and apparently it can use ablation.

So far we have been unsatisfied with the doctors she’s seen. I don’t want to hear about Dr. Vidali or Lora liu because for us that’s out of her budget. We don’t have financial support. So I would love recommendations of doctors who do take insurance so I can look into them. I would have loved for her to see Dr Ted Lee (my surgeon) but he does not take her insurance.

Surgery date booked in the States - ADVICE!!! Surgery date booked in the States - ADVICE!!! I just booked my second endo surgery… I decided I needed to see an endo specialist, and through the recommendations of this group I landed on Dr. Lora Liu. My surgery date is December 15th. So I have a few questions: 1. Im from Canada, and I am used to the Canadian healthcare system. Is there anything I need to be aware of before doing a little medical tourism to the states? 2. What should I pack? I’m used to having everything available to me at home, I need to make a list of things I need to bring! 3. What’s the process of getting medications down there? What if I need some stronger pain meds? (I’ll be asking Dr. Liu this too) 4. Anyone who’s had surgery with Dr Liu at the Jersey Medical Clinic please tell me what your experience was like!!!

Magnesium citrate is a cheaper form of magnesium. It often gives people diarrhea. But I was recommended it by my naturopath for what was initially thought to be mixed IBS symptoms (the back and forth between constipation and diarrhea). The magnesium citrate really helped a lot with those symptoms. I would also go a few days without a bowel movement, or having significant constipation. But since starting the magnesium citrate I’ve been pretty regular and it was only made better with my surgery. Another benefit of magnesium is it really helps a lot with sleep (apparently). The rectal nodule was removed by a regular gynecologist. I wouldn’t recommend having a general gyne doing endo excision or working on the bowels… I had months of severe rectal pain following my first surgery. My second surgery was done by Dr Lora Liu, who regularly works with other specialists (in my case, she had a urologist in on my surgery). If you suspect you have bowel involvement (which it sounds like you probably do), you should inquire about having a bowel specialist in on your excision surgery if you have one.

Of course! (All of this is in CAD) So in terms of medical costs, it was about $25000, which included hospital fees and Dr. Liu’s fees. On top of the medical costs, I stayed in New Jersey at an AirBNB for 8 days total which cost about $3000 (I had my parents staying with me so we rented a pretty big house). We spent between $400-$500 on food. We also rented a car and did a road trip there and back instead of flying. I would say the total was close to $30000. I am honestly extremely lucky to have family that was able to afford this for me, without them I would never have been able to get this surgery. Dr. Lora Liu is amazing, she was so attentive. The hospital I was at was incredible (literally looked like a Greys Anatomy set), the entire medical team there was so amazing, kind, and obviously passionate about patient care. It was truly an eye opening experience seeing the difference in healthcare compared to here in Canada. My endo symptoms are well under control now and I feel 100x better. The cost and the trip there was 110% worth it.

I can tell you right now I have no regrets going with Dr Liu. She and her team are amazing, the hospital staff at Jersey City was amazing as well. It was an all around great experience. I had phone calls from dr Liu every day for at least 6 days after surgery to check in on me and see how my recovery was going.

This was my second surgery. I had stage 3 endo on my first surgery that wasn’t performed by a endo specialist. My first surgery recover was absolutely horrible. I had a deep nodule on my rectum, endo on my ovaries, fallopian tubes, pelvic wall, ureters, and ureterosacral ligaments and more I just can’t remember! The second surgery with Dr Liu I had endo removed from my ureterosacral, rectum, and diaphragm. I guarantee that was all missed the first surgery. I also had a bunch of scar tissue/adhesions removed during the second surgery, as well as an appendectomy. (Dr Liu almost always removes the appendix in her endo cases). Dr Liu works with a team of specialists as well, I had a urologist in on my surgery because of my bladder symptoms, so I had bladder Botox. She often has bowel specialist as well if the need for resection is suspected. My recovery from the second surgery was significantly easier and less painful, but I believe that’s partly because I was given a proper pain management schedule. I stayed 7 days in the states after surgery and I was well enough for the drive home by day 7. Likely if I had been having my first surgery there my recovery time in the states would have needed to be longer. I don’t have adenomyosis so I don’t know how that might affect your recovery, and if you end up needing a hysterectomy that will probably result in a longer recovery time. When you have your 20 min consultation you can tell her exactly what you’ve just said here! I’d make a list of your symptoms and how intense/debilitating each one is. Then also include a list of info that your doctors have already told you in terms of what they think is going on.

I literally just had my laprascopy yesterday: 7/15. The actual proceedure you are unconscious for: I take very well to Anesthia and I was out. The prep was pretty easy; they will make you do a little colon cleanse since they will insert a catheter during surgery. You will be asleep when it is put in and when it is pulled out. There are 4 scars: one in the belly button, 2 on the left side and one on the right. Unsure if this is for everyone but while I was under they also took out my appendix. I consented and was informed beforehand that I was a possibility. They will not do anything to you that you do not consent too. When you wake up you feel too much pain, at least I didn’t. Certainly nothing compared to the pain I felt everyday. You’re a little nauseous and very very gassy. They make you eat, drink, and go to the bathroom before discharging you to go home. Recovery time is 2-4 weeks, but I opted for 4. Right now I’m laying in bed: my partner made me a little recovery nest. You will need to be up and walking every hour to help get the extra gas out of your system. I was blessed to get my surgery done by Dr. Lora Liu. I actually found her through this subreddit from other suggestions. I’m still awaiting my full results, but the actual surgery was a success and I didn’t feel anything. Right now what hurts the most is my abs: I feel like I just ran a 5k and did 600 push-ups. I currently do not feel any ovary/pelvic pain: but again I am only 2 days post surgery. I hope this helps you!

I went to my OBGYN and she refused to give me a referral. These people don’t want you to get help; I have been laughed at, dismissed, and I was threatened to be put into induced menopause because I questioned her care for me. Frankly, I’ve been living a medical nightmare. What I did to find my specialist was i looked on here and asked people who their surgeons were. You don’t truly need a referral: you can ask to meet with an endo doctor any time as long as you reach out. I did have to pay outside of my insurance, and it was very pricey—— but I think I’m the end just having a doctor that beleived me made all the difference. I’m currently with the Pelvic Rehabilitation Medical Group. My doctor is Dr.Lora Liu and I can’t express how much she genuinely cares about me and my pain. Don’t wait for a doctor to sign a few papers to refer you; you know your pain best. Start googling endo specialists today. You got this and I’m proud of you for taking this next step. <3

Update Update!! A Diagnosis!!! Update Update!! A Diagnosis!!! My last post was very dismal, I wrote it in such a dark place. Thank you, thank you, thank you, to everyone who commented who were nothing but kind and caring and really listened to me. I just got off the phone with my surgeon, Dr.Lora Liu and she confirmed that out of the 17 biopsies she took…. 1 of them tested positive for endometriosis. I cried and cried; because I was so….. happy. I have a diagnosis after all this time. My endometriosis was on my right hypogastric ovarian section ….. which has been the origin of my pain. She says the endo was small but it was close to my nervous system and was traveling along it. She biopsied the whole area (ovary still in tact), and does not believe that it will regrow/return. I feel so validated. To know that I trusted my body and my body was right: I was in pain. I was suffering. And this wasn’t for nothing. Today has been one of the worst days for my surgery pain: this morning I laid in bed and just screamed because everything hurt so much—— and then like the fates knew I need answers, I got my call. I am so so so beyond thankful to Dr.Liu and her medical team. I finally know. And hopefully, it is finally over. I will always have to manage pain In general with this diagnosis, but the source of it has been removed from my body, and it is not expected to return. I was suggested to start pelvic floor therapy, which I am very interested in…. However I am in so much medical debt that I fear I won’t be able to afford it. So for now my focus is healing from my surgery which will take 4-6 weeks and we shall take it day by day. Finally; finally; vindication. I have endometriosis, and I’m going to be okay.

Unsure how you would start but I’m so happy about this (especially because I’m in NJ). My suggestion would be to see if you can sit in on any business classes at local/community universities near you. Talk to professors and other professionals about their experience with starting non-profits. Also I’d reach out to doctors and other clinics that treat endo to see if they would be interested and helpful! Unsure if they legally could but I got my laprascopy with the pelvic medical group with Dr. Lora Liu and she and her group were incredible to me with tons of locations In NJ/NY. :)

Hi! Yes!!! SO Dr.Liu has amazing bed side manner. She called me 3 times to check up on me in my recovery stage and the. Months later I had a question about a possible infection (it wasn’t infected, the whether just changed and my body got mad): and she remembered my mom and my partner by name and asked about them MONTHS after we haven’t spoken. She was thorough in all the questions I had and the actually surgery was great. As for my surgery she took 22 biopsies and. I received a full report on each and every one of them. To my knowledge she did excise all the endo she found: however I’m a special case. The endo I have is very small, almost microscopic as it had fused to my right ovarian nerve endings. I still feel pain but it is NOWHERE near what it used to be. I’d say my everyday pain is at 1-2 and it can shoot up to a 6 in terrible flair ups (usually right after I have sex); but before my surgery my average pain was a 6 and I’d shoot up to a 10. I couldn’t walk; I couldn’t even sit up on my own without being in so much pain I would pass out. She gave me my life back. My life is still very hard, but I have hope for it to be better. I’m working on so many treatments for myself but this surgery with her was a HUGE step one. I’d do it again in a heartbeat. The few “issues” I had with her were things I knew going in and decided I could live with them because I wanted the best surgeon to do my surgery, rather than an affordable one. She does not take insurance (per her status of surgeon and researcher she cannot): so I had to pay out of pocket 10k, 1k upfront. She also cannot get involved in any workplace issues/disability disputes. She can write you time off for your immediate surgery recovery but after that she cannot help you. I do not blame her for this whatsoever but my journey has been sooooooooo hard because of it. I got my surgery in July and I am still trying to find a doctor who is willing to sign my ADA forms so that I can have a fucking heating pad and comfy chair at my office. It literally should not be this hard to get the bare fucking minimum of care. So I hope that helps! If you want DM me about my actual surgery details I’d be more than willing to share.

Don’t waste it trying to manage it with birth control pills etc. Dr Lora Liu is one choice Dr Ted Lee at NYU is a little gruff but he does have great surgical skills. I have narcolepsy, and in the past 2 years developed a chronic vestibular migraine which has wreaked havoc on both the narcolepsy and my mental health. It seems to have made the anesthesia this time around really hard to recover from, and I’m having bad reactions to opiates. Now I’m just in pain that I can barely manage, but worst of all I’m just struggling mentally. This didn’t happen to me last time, but this time around I’m feeling really down and weird. I had surgery with Dr. Liu for my second surgery. She’ll call you often that first week and check in, and if your meds aren’t working she’ll help you with that. Make sure you’re in communication with your gyno and PCP and that they’re aware you’re having surgery so you have as much standby support as you need.
