hi!!! she was super informative and not cold at all. I will say she does not use surgery as her only modality but she will pursue it once the endo case is clear. in my case, the MRI showed endo so we will have surgery to remove it. she said she is very conservative and will be very careful when excising. she wil also have a colorectal surgeon present as i have rectal endo on the MRI. overall shes very knowledgable and open to inquiry/questions. Shes not bubbly lol but shes also not a salesperson, shes very direct and to the point. hope this helps and happy to answer more :)

I got my lap with Dr Kossl on may 28th!! she found endo in 10 places(one of those a 3cm endomtrioma) -- she did excision which is the gold standard. she used robotic surgery with the davinci machine and i ended up with 5 incisions all healing beautifully. she listened to all my concerns and even saved my fallopian tube that looked wonky in the MRI. (so i have both yay)! lmk if you have other qs!

Kelsey Kossl at NYU has been fabulous for me

I’d been diagnosed previously and went to her when the symptoms started to bother me. She was great.

Keep checking the app every single morning; an opening will certainly happen. You can sign up for notifications of cancellations on the app too, but weirdly I got my first appointment with her by checking the app manually and seeing an earlier apt with her- I hadn’t received an automatic notification from the app. For context, when I initially tried to get an appointment with her my first appointment was similar (about a 3 month wait) and I ended up getting an appointment that opened up within 3 weeks. After that appointment I was scheduled in for her next surgery appointment, which was 4 months out, but within a few weeks her office contacted me with a much earlier slot. All said and done she had consulted me, performed my pre op and my surgery within a 6 week period. She was wonderful throughout, she’s clear, informative and informed.

I also had a phenomenal experience with her, as did many women on this sub. OPs experience sounds like an entirely different person.

“Once you do have the surgeon consult, you can immediately set your surgery date” - I wish that was my experience :( I went for a surgery consultation with Dr Kossl at NYU Langone. She confirmed my large ovarian endometriomas from the ultrasound reports I brought and recommended surgery. But because I didn’t do an MRI before (when I asked for an MRI exam, my gynecologist felt unnecessary to order one given the clear evidence in ultrasound), she asked me to schedule an MRI and then follow up again. No surgery dates were put down. I got the MRI done just the next day but then I couldn’t even schedule a follow-up within 3 months (?!) despite she has new-patients slots in the coming week and the week after that! I explained to the front desk and they sent a note to the doctor office. Two days later the doctor office called me to reschedule the follow-up in ~3 weeks, and before that no surgery date would be decided. Sorry for the rant… I’m just so tired of this scheduling game.

I just had my initial consultation with her and haven’t been scheduled anything despite she and I both agreed that I needed surgery. I might have to wait until the follow-up consultation. Did you get your surgery scheduled just after the 1st consultation? Also, good luck with your surgery!

Thanks A LOT for your detailed information!!! She also sent me for MRI, and I got one just the day after. Then I tried to schedule a follow-up, but the earliest follow-up slot in the app was >3 months away (?!) even if there were multiple new-patient slot within 1 month. I don’t understand what’s the point of crazily taking new patients but leaving the existing patients alone for 3 months! So I called the front desk and explained my urgency with the large ovarian endometriomas (7cm+) and they sent a note to the doctor office. Yet when they called 2 days later, they still only scheduled me 3 weeks away and there were clearly a few new-patient slot on app before that. I mean it’s great that more patients can finally get connected to a doctor who understands their pain, but wouldn’t the patient be more desperate if left alone for a few weeks with no medication, no therapy, and no surgery scheduling despite the necessity?? NYU’s scheduling philosophy is so broken. Sorry for the rant! I’

NYU Langone takes insurance and has an endometriosis center. A few doctors (Kathy Huang, Ted Lee, Kelsey Kossl, Catherine Chan, Chris Eswar, etc) have been mentioned in this sub and r/endometriosis with nice reviews. However their scheduling is a bit frustrating (at least for me). You’ll have to be patient (pun not intended)…

I’m very sorry to hear that this was your experience. I do want to share though, that I saw Dr. Kossl in 2023 for a robotic myomectomy to remove numerous fibroids and severe deep-penetrating endometriosis and I had an incredible experience with her. She was extremely kind and patient, took the time to answer all of my questions in detail at each appointment and worked closely with my REI to ensure that I would still be able to move forward with my planned fertility treatments on the timeline I was hoping for despite the surgery. She was wonderful about coordinating aspects of my care and other respect as well – for example, she helped ensure that I got an IV infusion prior to surgery because I told her I was having a difficult time tolerating oral iron supplements. The surgery was completely successful, and she was wonderful about follow up care. I’m also particularly surprised to hear about the experience you had with the IUD, because she recommended at the outset that I get an IUD

I also had an excellent experience with Dr. Kossl (I searched around for her on this subreddit because of the post you mentioned because I felt compelled to defend her-- she was incredible with me!) FWIW i thought she had an excellent bedside manner and was super kind and patient and thorough in answering all my questions. Please feel free to DM me if helpful to talk more!

Serious Warning About Dr. Kossl at NYU - Manhattan, NYC I want to share this so no one else has to go through what I did. This was one of the worst and most humiliating medical experiences of my life. Dr. Kossl showed absolutely zero empathy, was openly annoyed, belittling and used gaslighting and intimidation tactics throughout my visit. She visibly got annoyed anytime I expressed any concerns. I went to see her for serious issues with endometriosis and abnormal bleeding. Instead of helping, she treated me like I was an inconvenience from the start, asking me “well what do YOU suggest?”, as if I am the doctor. I said, “Well how about you make suggestions, Dr,” and so she said I recommend an IUD. When I brought up that IUD insertion can be extremely painful since they do not use pain medication, she literally rolled her eyes at me and dismissed it as “it’s absolutely not a big deal”. She refused to acknowledge that many women find it excruciating and deserve proper pain management or at least a real conversation about it, which made me nervous from the get-go. I told her I don’t want anything inserted inside of me that I can’t removed and she rolled her eyes at me, as if there is something wrong with saying that. When I told her I am sensitive to oral hormonal medication (hence my reasoning for not wanting an IUD), she again got visibly annoyed. Instead of exploring alternatives or listening, she acted like I was just being difficult for knowing what my body can and cannot tolerate. She gave a vague explanation about progesterone stopping periods and then got irritated with me when I asked her to clarify. It is literally her job to explain it and she made me feel stupid for not immediately understanding her half-answer. She again told me to make suggestions to her about my own treatment plan which is absurd since I am not the doctor. When I mentioned that my other provider said I might be a candidate for Uterus removal, she dismissed it as “minor surgery” with

I’m so sorry to hear you’ve also experience this too (like SO MANY of us women)!! You’d hope (or at least I did) that another woman would have compassion for another woman, but sadly, some of these female Doctors don’t see us as actual humans, like Dr Kossl treated me. Instead, she treated me like I was a problem for feeling anxious with her lack of empathy. Talk about deflection. It’s really sad when you think about it. Sending support ❤️‍🩹

So basically she sent me for an MRI (which came out only showing mildly thickened uterosacral ligaments) and based on not completely damning results, we agreed that I would try pelvic floor physical therapy first. I ended up going for a few months but the pain and muscle tenseness wasn’t getting better so I scheduled a follow up appointment on the app. We chatted and agreed surgery was the next step and the front desk sent my information to her surgery scheduling people. The wait for a surgical appointment with her was about 3-4 months. Hope this helps!

Oof, I’m so sorry you’re running into the scheduling problems. For what it’s worth, Dr. Kossl has explicitly told me she has more appointments than the app shows. Basically what I would do is take the earliest appointment but then turn your notifications on to be put on the waitlist. Essentially you’ll get texts or app notifications every time someone cancels or a new time pops up, which in my experience happens a lot. If there are follow-ups on the app sooner I would take them. A lot of time NYU wants you to schedule on the app anyway so as long as it’s under the follow up appointment classification, I’d take an appointment the sooner the better. Especially because surgical wait time is another few months on top of that.

I’d love to hear about what happened. It took me 3 months to get an appointment but I had to stay up late to finish a project (it’s 5am) & my appointment is at 9am. There’s no way I can miss sleep since Endometriosis is not the only health issue I have. Is she worth the wait? I saw Dr Erica Dun and she said i need my Uterus removed (not my ovaries) & yet I tried to ask a few questions via the app & she didn’t reply for 5 weeks. Then when I called, her staff yelled at me and said she’s a very busy Doctor. It’s been very frustrating, so I scheduled with Dr Kossl, who rescheduled my appointment to this morning in January. They need more endometriosis specialists at NYU.

kelsey kossl at nyu, i could kiss you on the mouth had a consultation with dr. kossl today following a multiple years long pain journey and various goofy and dismissive doctors. she thoroughly listened as i covered my medical and menstrual history, explained in detail the treatments she offers to women with suspected endo, and above all, believed firmly on examination and my account that endo is causing the whole plethora of pain and symptoms i’m suffering with. next steps are pelvic mri and surgical scheduling, but i would highly recommend her if you too are at your wits end of non-answers and persistent pain. also nyu langone takes insurance!!!!

Yes - Kelsey Kossl at NYU Langone. She's with the NYU Endometriosis Center. My surgery is scheduled for mid-september. There were 2 other doctors there I would have preferred to see, but their schedules are crazy and I wouldn't have even gotten an initial consult until late August or early September.
