Dr Kanayama - he keeps a super active instagram with tons of helpful info on his method, outcomes, and patient cases. Couldn’t recommend him more highly - he opened my eyes to how dangerous most decisions are. If a doctor is using a machine and operating from another room… run. They’re burning your tissue and creating scar tissue. You’ll need multiple surgeries more than likely and each with worse pain than the last. His return rate is less than 5% when the stage is below a 3 if memory serves

Oh he’s marvelous !! Can’t say enough good things about him. I traveled from out of state to see him because of his method, success rate, and bedside manner. He’s quirky in a very endearing way but most importantly an expert in what he does. He has been doing this for over 25 years. When we were going through my photos yesterday post surgery, I realized how must skill it takes to be able to identify every form of endo in the body and remove it, which is quite incredible when they say there are 65 different phenotypes of endo. I had stage 3 endo, and my chance of it returning is 4%. If you have any questions related to dr kanayama I’m happy to answer !

I’m so sorry you’ve had to go through what you have. I’m not sure where you’re located but check out dr kanayama and his website/Instagram. The surgeon matters SO much when it comes to your outcome. I’ve had to fight my journey too to finally get a diagnosis and be heard in a world that isn’t built yet for this diseases eradication. But dr kanayama didn’t question me for a second - he fully excised my endometriosis (over 100 endometriomas, 25 fibroids, and 5 cysts) in one go. Your surgeon needs to get it all out and it can’t be with any burning tools - that’ll create the potential for scar tissue to form and potentially leave endo behind where it’s hidden.
I wish you all the success in your journey!!! We all deserve a break 🤍

Hysterectomy will NOT stop your endo from spreading. Please check out @newyorkendometriosis and if you’re close to New York… Dr kanayama. He did my surgery and so many others (I think he said around 9,000 at this stage in his career focusing on endo excision) and has an incredibly high success rate in even the most complex cases. (His rate of return is also super low - he gets everything out, and I had over 100 endometrial implants, 25 fibroids and 5 cysts … I’m now on the mend after being tortured for 15+ years with the insanity you’re describing now that’s totally normal given the agony and pain endo causes)
Were your previous surgeries with a robot or by hand?

Cannot say enough good things about Dr kanayama in nyc. People fly from all over the world to see him for good reason. He’s done over 9,000 some odd surgeries over 30 years and is an absolute gem. Very patient, knowledgeable, and his return rates are incredibly low (I was stage 3 and based on his outcomes, I have roughly a 4% chance of returning for a second lap)

He doesn’t but they give you all the paperwork to submit to insurance and you get reimbursed for the amount your insurance would’ve covered. If you do go for surgery with a surgeon who’s out of network, make sure you file for an insufficient network so you don’t get yourself into a mess with claims later down the line 🙃

If possible, get yourself to De. Kanayama in New York. I traveled from Texas to see him. He is the only surgeon I’ve found who is able to get really accurate screening results from a pelvic exam, ultrasound and bloodwork. He gave me life back after a botched surgery from a nook approved Dr. He himself does the ultrasound, exam, and gives you results from those immediately. You. Can’t see endo on an ultrasound but a true expert can see the evidence of it. My friend also got screened with me and I watched him find adeno and evidence of endo. His technique is the best chance at getting the adeno out while preserving as much healthy tissue and organs as possible. Just had someone from another group reach out after multiple surgeries over 13 years with endo and adeno, finally went to dr. Kanayama who was able to save her uterus and fix all the mess from previous surgeries. It might be really validating to have everything looked at my an expert and give validation to your pain.

Oh my gosh!!! I’m so so sorry you experienced such harm. The fact that a surgery to care for YOUR body was out of the question unless it interfered with your partners sexual life is infuriating to say the least. I’m so angry and sad for you. I truly hope you find good care. I cannot recommend Dr. Kanayama enough. I traveled from TX to NY for help, and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. He explained to me that even after a hysterectomy, if endo was missed it could be spreading. I highly suggest following him on instagram as well, he puts out so much helpful information for the endo community @newyorkendometriosis

I can’t speak for everyone but Dr. Kanayama literally gave me my life back. Working with him was incredibly healing. Not only physically (night and day difference), but finding good care where I was actually listened to and understood was a lovely change of pace.
I HIGHLY recommend going in for a consult before deciding. He personally performs the ultrasound and exam, and while you can’t see endo on an ultrasound an expert can see the evidence of it. Based on my intake and evaluation he estimated I was stage 2-3. Then he gave the estimate. I have friends whose estimate was lower because he estimated lower stages. They likely can’t give you an accurate number without having some idea of the work involved. My estimate was 20,000, I had stage 3 and over 200 points of endo. I came in under budget, but kept it on file to use for post op appointments. I know a few people now that have used him and have finally found relief, some after years and multiple surgeries.

I definitely recommend a consult for a better picture of his demeanor. I’ve never been treated so gently and kindly. I don’t believe English is his first language, and his social posts seem to come off a little blunt because of that. He is also incredibly passionate about sharing info that he doesn’t feel many patients receive to make a fully informed decision. If you’re able to consult with both in person before deciding that might be really helpful, but I also recognize that uses up a lot of resources, both monetary and energy wise. I’m so sorry you’re in pain, I really get being fed up with it. I truly hope you find care and relief soon!

Hi, not at all. He’s out of network for most insurances, but will send it to them for you. Everyone’s estimate is different based on the consult, what stage of endo your estimated to be, if there are other factors like adenomyosis, etc. so my costs may be very different than your costs, which is why they don’t really give estimates until after the estimate and they have a better idea of the extent of the surgery they are looking at. I had stage 3 endo, lots of endo that was spread that needed to be removed tiny dot, by tiny dot, scar tissue and endo bands, some ovary repair, getting my organs unattached from each other etc. it was about $20,000. My out of network benefits covered a large portion of the hospital fees, anesthesia and bloodwork but didn’t cover Dr. Kanayama, however they had just paid for my first excision 6 months prior (not sure if that was part of it). It is not cheap, and I recognize that being able to use the help of family and friends was a huge privilege. I also kn

Hi! I’m SO happy to hear about your sisters experience with Dr. K. I know people who have been told they needed a full hysterectomy as well and Dr. K was also able to give them better care than they had ever received and preserved their fertility/keep their organs in place.
So for my insurance, unfortunately I had just had a surgery they mostly covered 6 minhrbs prior to getting one with Dr. K, so they did not cover anything. I had a friend who got about 5,000 back from insurance. I did get the hospital portion covered, some of my bloodwork and a chunk of my anesthesia bill. My sister had a relatively good out of network plan, but when she called they told her that they would only cover an out of network surgery up to a certain ammount, after her deductible had been met and out of network max had been met. They would not tell her what the “ammount” was. She ended up doing a go fund me, got all her endo out, and woke up from surgery in less pain than she normally felt with endo. I kno

I feel it's based of stages. I am stage 4(confirmed by him and other endo doctors). They priced me at 20k-24k, all depends on how much he has to do.
I am going to move forward with services.

Thank you for the response. I do have OONB, and they will only cover a portion of it. The thing with this provider is that you have to pay first and then send in a claim for insurance.
For my initial visit, I did pay out of pocket for everything, made my claim but I did not get a refund, instead the put it towards my deductible for OON.
Once I do make my claim, I am hoping they can cover it as In-network and I can get most of my money back

I agree. We are all on the same battlefield and should share information with one another. I dislike gate-keepers and makes me wonder if these are people in his office doing the reviews.
You do have to sign a lot of paperwork but nothing states you can share pricing information with others. I mean it's commin sense, thar everyone will be charged a different price depending on the progression of the disease and so on....and what your insurance provider will refund you.
I will share this with you--they are very straightforward in the office but will answer your questions. Don't let that scare or put you off from services. Go in there confident.

Beware of Dr.Conayama in NYC!
This is my story.
Beware of this doctor in NYC. I spelled his name incorrectly on purpose but I'm sure google will correct it, and you will be able to locate this doctor.
I had surgery with him to remove my ovarian cyst and endometriosis.
He lied and said he removed all my cyst and he did not.
I went back to my provider not even a 2 weeks later and the cyst he said he removed are still there. Had to be hospitalized due to complications of the cyst.
I called told him about and he said that it is not true. He also lied to my provider, told her a different story.
He eventually called several weeks later and mentioned it's best I see a different provider.
I'm upset because I paid out of pocket for this procedure to avoid a hysterectomy and now, I will have to end up getting one anyone.
And unfortunately, I can not sue for medical practice due to its terms.
I'm terribly upset with myself regarding this issue and wish I never had gone to him.

Hi Please reach out to “New York Endometriosis center”. Doctor Kanayama is endo specialist and he can find whether we have endo or not based on ultrasound. Yes, laparoscopy is needed to confirm the endo but he has so much experience in treating endo patients, I think that is why he can tell just by vaginal examination and ultrasound that endo exists. He has the ultrasound machine in his office so he inspects everything on his own rather than looking at images and notes from radiologist like most doctors too. He showed me all the abnormalities caused by endo right during the ultrasound. He was surprised that my doctors did not see them.
Fast forward, did endo laproscopy and other procedure today and hoping to get better soon. Take care and highly recommend to check this doctor out.

Sounds frustrating! Definitely look for another OB. I changed my OB when I realized she is not there to help. I saw an endo specialist- Dr. Kanayama from “New York endometriosis Center”. He is the best endo/adeno excision specialist I know of. His services were expensive because he does not take insurance but for my health, I was ready to take loan/go fund me to pay for the surgery. I never had MRI, but when I visited his office in NY, he was able to tell right away I had endo causing retroverted uterus based on physical examination and ultrasound. I cannot recommend this surgeon at all. He performed my surgery. He scares people into hepatic over davinci which is BS because I know so many women who had robotic surgery and feel amazing. Unfortunately I have now met many of this surgeons patients who are in more pain than ever post surgery. Post op it's a whole other story. He says surgery was perfect. No reason for pain. Throwns expensive birth control at you which doesn't do anything post op. The whole thing is weird. Do not trust this doctor.

It’s a lot- maybe I will another time. But I will say that what happened to me has happened to multiple of his patients. He tells them all the same thing- they are the only patient he has like this. They are crazy. They are doing something wrong. They can’t blame him it has nothing to do with his surgery (even though all the problems began post op). Women get dismissed as it is just trying to get a diagnosis, but that is NOTHING compared to the dismissal post op from this surgeon. It’s actually bizarre. Something is not right. He treated me like I was dumb thinking he could convince me to believe the insanity coming out of his mouth even though he knows perfectly well the answer. Or may he really doesn’t. Maybe he actually has NO idea what the hell he is doing. It’s also been discovered that he writes some of his own reviews under female names. There are so many weird things I can’t even explain. When you compare his office and how it’s run to other surgeons it’s very weird. You don’t even get pre and post op instructions! I had no idea what I was not allowed to do post op and had to google it. It’s not organized and together in the way other offices are with directions and paperwork and stuff. It’s like a garage operation. It’s so weird! He has no PA. The office is closed most days. Also he never met with me right after surgery. He was really cold before surgery. The entire world uses daVinci all the top surgeons so how is he telling people it’s dangerous and makes things worse when HE MADE THINGS WORSE by not knowing how to properly operate. His special method to find endo is BS too. The more I’ve thought about it the more mad I get. It’s really messed up. There are so many messed up things.

What can I say? First of all, I’m so, so sorry and deeply sympathize with your situation. You’ve already gone through surgery but are still experiencing unbearable pain—I can only imagine how hard and overwhelming this must be for you.
I recently visited Dr. К office and left frustrated.
The first visit is extremely overpriced, so if you decide to go, ask for a consultation without unnecessary tests—they’re not needed in most cases. From what I’ve gathered, Dr. K specializes in marketing himself as the only one capable of diagnosing endometriosis when others miss it. I’m almost certain he’ll find something “wrong” from your previous surgery and recommend another operation with him (which will likely mean an extra $30K out of pocket).
They promise that you’ll receive some kind of special examination or that the doctor will check you thoroughly—this is nonsense. He will do a 10-minute ultrasound and immediately tell you “what’s wrong and where.”
Regarding the office: be prepared for

Hi, it’s so great to connect with someone who’s had a similar surgery with this doctor. I’m really glad everything went well for you and hope you’re recovering well.
I was given the exact same diagnosis by the doctor—he mentioned a twisted uterus, adenomyosis, and insisted everything needed to be opened up, removed, and so on (almost word for word).
From what I understood from his billing office, his required payment of ~$20,000 would need to be made before the surgery. So, even with insurance and any out-of-network benefits, this amount would need to be transferred prior to the operation.
It would also be really helpful for everyone to know what insurance and plan you use that might cover 50% of his services. For many people who can’t afford him, this information could be essential.
Thank you so much! 🙏

Dear, my heart goes out to you. I can’t even begin to express how deeply sorry I am—this is truly horrific, unacceptable, and beyond outrageous!
Please, don’t give up. I strongly encourage you to seek out a lawyer, maybe a pro bono attorney or even a young professional willing to take on your case and at least push it through the proper channels. At the very least, this surgeon’s reputation, license, and entire practice need to be seriously scrutinized. I would also make sure to notify the hospital he is so proud to be affiliated with!
I personally visited this doctor two months ago, and everything I experienced in his office shocked me—from his questionable examination skills to the bizarre recommendations from his so-called billing specialist (aka a dietitian?!). And, of course, the moment he explained to me that his services would cost me $20,000.

I went to the NYU clinic years ago, before covid so I don’t remember everything. But I do remember they didn’t recommend surgery and wanted to send me to PT. Now all my doctors are at NYU and I get amazing care. But I didn’t go ahead with surgery for endo there.
Dr Kanayama usually keeps some appointments open for new patients every week or at least he used to. I had an extremely thorough exam with him. He was the only person to use a 3D ultrasound. He drew out a diagram of what he saw on the ultrasound. He was the first doctor to see my adeno, although I’m sure it was there on my other scans. I wish I could have had surgery with him, but he didn’t take my insurance. So he quoted me $15k, which I just couldn’t do.
Now that I’ve had all my organs removed I don’t think I’ll need surgery again. But if I do I’d probably go to him.

He is an incredible doctor. She my story above. If this patient did indeed have surgery with him, she is one of thousands and truly the only one I’ve heard of with a bad outcome. Compare that to any other doctor and see how many outcomes they’ve had. Dr Kanayama is one in a million and it is devastating that endo warriors will no longer have him in their corner. My family has been in tears for days just sick to our stomach and stressed that he won’t be around if we ever have a flare up, or if our younger female friends and relatives develop endo.

I’m really curious who these other women are. Because I’ve spoken with many and never heard a bad thing. Hundreds of us are in a group chat re his extradition, trying to help him, and we are all devastated we will be losing him. I’m sorry, but you are the anomaly. Also, is follow up post surgery is unprecedented. He responds immediately. Gives his cell phone number. Gives you all the photos and reports. And I’ve never once heard him say I don’t know. Soooo something’s not adding up unless you’re a surgeon who doesn’t agree with his successes?

Hi, do not go to him. Would not recommend at all. I was diagnosed with endo 10 years ago and had numerous check ups with him and could never afford the surgery. Please do yourself a huge favor and make an appointment with Dr. Shakiba in Hackensack, NJ. I just had my endo lap with him, he has a special arrangement with insurance and will not have to pay an outlandish amount like for Kanayama, believe me it's extremely affordable and he is an excellent doctor, even better than Dr. K

Of course! I actually had no idea about the insurance flexibility before I made the appointment with him so you can imagine how thrilled I was to hear about their arrangement. Basically I paid a small doctors fee to him prior to the surgery ($1-2k range) and they did something with my insurance where they got reimbursed directly from them. And I know they do this for every patient, not just me. I can’t tell you how easy the process was. Joannie who handles the financials was amazing. Dr K I had been to a handful of times and I can say confidently that Shakiba is a million times better. Not only is he an endo specialist but he’s a pelvic reconstructive surgeon so he can do anything that needs to be done down there. He’s a true and honest surgeon that did an excellent job on me. I’m so happy to have found him and want to spread the word because I know what it’s like to be suffering in pain and feeling hopeless not being able to afford a ridiculous doctor like K. Shakiba operates and is a

I had seen Kanayama for a while. I had a few endo consults with him where they quoted me outrageous prices. I never thought I was going to be able to afford endo surgery ever, and it was such a hard time for me. My endo pain was excruciating, I would often vomit and/or faint and wouldn’t be able to get up and walk for days. I didn’t feel like his office cared, they just wanted the money. There was also a brief moment where I was going to him for regular gyno needs - I was having an issue down there and he berated me for having it. He completely humiliated me and questioned how or WHO could give me said issue. I don’t want to go into too much detail but it was the most inappropriate and disgusting encounter I have ever had with a doctor. Since then, I stopped going to him and found the wonderful Dr. Shakiba. He did my endo surgery in 2020 (I had stage 4). He was able to work something out with my insurance which he does for all his patients which was such a huge relief. Money aside, i c
