“Third excision surgery. Found endo on bladder, bowels, uterus, and diaphragm. Critically identified what appeared to be scar tissue wrapped around the right ureter as endometriosis — without this, patient's kidney would have failed. Takes insurance. Patient felt great one week post-op and is a strong ongoing advocate for him.”

Reported complications: ureteral stent required for 6 weeks post-surgery (described as brutal but necessary)

Oh this makes me breath a little lighter now. Thank you for this! I had excision with an endo specialist last aug (2019) and my pain was 100% worse so I’ve been so nervous for this one. But everyone seems to love Dr. Furr (which upon speaking to him, so did I). Can’t wait to feel better. Thank you for your kindness is replying to me.

I actually found both excision specialist through Nancy’s Nook on FB. I’m stage 4 so I’m a tricky case. The first endo specialist was unqualified for my case. In fact, she just wanted to take out my uterus when I went back to her about my pain persisting. Thankfully I didn’t listen to her. My uterus is “fine” now. I also did a free consultation with Dr. Sinervo who saw endo on my surgical photos - I couldn’t afford him since he’s out of pocket for the most part. I also had a consult with Dr. Vidali in NY who I also loved but same issue- couldn’t afford it - although he’s more affordable than the CEC (they have fanatic research on their website though). I eventually found Dr. Furr in Chattanooga and he was just as qualified as someone from the CEC. I went directly to all these doctors. What I’ve learned is if you want a certain life - you have to make it happen (medically). If you want to DM, please feel free. I can just tell you what I know from what’s I’ve researched or experienced. Also follow endogirlsblog on IG. They are wonderful.

This sounds vary similar to my story. Nancy’s Nook led me to the only specialist in Nashville. I had surgery with her and ended up in more pain and with more symptoms than previous. I tried diets and pelvic floor therapy etc. it was “better” but not overall. I researched and could swear I had more endo even though said Nash doctor told me I had “little” in the first place and everything must be from adeno which an MRI did see (even though that’s Controversial in the community) and would only do a hysterectomy from here on out. Which lead me to find a new endo specialist - also Nancy Nook recommended. I did the free consultation with Dr. Sinevo in Atlanta at the CEC - he saw endo from my after surgery photos and my symptoms matched. I was going to go to him for surgery but couldn’t afford him unfortunately. But I did find an endo specialist in Chattanooga (Dr. Furr) who also studied under the same doctor Dr. Sinervo did and also recommended by Nancy’s Nook. I haven’t had my updated visit yet but he told my husband I had endo everywhere - bladder, bowels, uterus, diaphragm. I’m a week post op and I feel great believe it or not. I know this didn’t cure it 100% but it’s given me relief so far and that’s all I was asking. I guess my point is if I had listened to the Nash dr I would have no uterus (which is fine) but I would have been in pain still because of the endo. I’ve been through soooo many doctors and “us endo people” know we have to advocate for ourselves. So that’s my opinion and advice - second, third, and fourth opinion if needed. Also make a record book of all your doctor apts, MRI’s, and CT’s. You can always ask for your records which I recommend getting and bringing them to your doctor. The good ones will be impress and thankful.

So sorry you have to start over but it is part of our lame disease and lack of help out there. I don’t know where you live but I highly recommend Dr. Furr in Chattanooga. It’s worth the travel if needed. Also if you have any questions please feel free to message me. Also... it doesn’t help everyone but for me Dong Quai helped with the bleeding and slow release iron. Also there are two forms of adenomyosis- I had the one where they could cut it out with my fibroids. Make sure to ask. I get wanting a hysterectomy but make sure you find someone who can do all of it. Best!

Hi! Feel free to DM me and definitely keep in touch. It really takes a community. I’ll try to answer your questions the best way I can and in the most positive way lol. You’re right in the uterus lottery :(. I’ve actually had 3 surgeries because the doctor before couldn’t handle my case until this last excision specialist who is in Chattanooga and I highly recommend (Dr. Furr). I would never go to a gyno for surgery. Always go and talk to an endo specialist. Did your doctor unblock your tubes? What’s your surgery report say? Also, IVF drugs can stimulate adeno/endo making it grow and causing complications. I live in Nashville and I don’t know anyone that got their IVF taken care of because they had adeno, fibroids, or endo. But I will cross my fingers yours does. IVF is also its own beast. Start calling your health insurance to see what they cover. Also what part of the country are you located in?

I feel the same way about Nook and the CEC. I went with Dr. Furr. He is very qualified and takes insurance. Just research the crap out of the excision specialist and ask other ladies how they feel about their experience and how they are months, years later. DM with any questions
r/r/adenomyosis Jul 4, 2022 +1 pts
Ya I mean I don’t know who you’re specialist is but there’s a lot that claim to be and just aren’t. That’s why I said that. Had two of them before I found Dr. Furr. The first doctors said he was a specialist - sewed me up after he couldn’t do the surgery. The second was a Nancy’s Nook specialist and she was also bullshit. So I researched until I found Dr. Furr. So all I’m saying is it’s always good to get second and third opinions.

I just had my third excision with a certified excision specialist (Dr. Furr who also was taught under the same surgeon as Sinervo). He checked my kidneys and ureters, thankfully. Because what he thought was scar tissue wrapped around my right Ureter (causing it to almost stop working which almost caused my kidney to fail) WAS in fact endometriosis. I’ve had a stent for 6 weeks and it’s been brutal. I would definitely make sure your surgeon can check your ureters and all the other places as much as possible. I can’t express how important it is to have that especially since you feel pain. Im so sorry as well. Also Nancy’s Nook can suck it lol. The fact that she doesn’t let you leave a bad review is BS. I trusted that website for my first excision specialist and she (Dr. Amanda Yunker’s) was terrible. Left me in more pain than before and then when I asked for help again she said “hysterectomy or nothing”. Im glad I didn’t listen to her and found Dr. Robert Furr. That’s all. Lol

Dr Robert Furr who use to be in Chattanooga, TN but moved to Tampa, FL is a skilled excision surgeon. I’ve had multiple surgeries but only due to having stage 4 Endo/adeno and IVF. Ask me anything! I’m an open book and stand by Dr Furr. I’ve had two other surgeries before him that were with terrible surgeons who said they experienced but weren’t. They were on the Nook list which I don’t recommend due to not being able to leave a negative review but the list she has is a good starting point and then I would recommend asking or searching to see who also had that excision specialist and what their experience was. But I’ve been advocating since 2018 and can help.

I am ending up having surgery with Dr. Furr, in Chattanooga. The surgeon fee was kinda ridiculous. Total was going to be $15,000. And they weren’t willing to budge. I asked Dr. Arrington if it’s possible for a pro bono case. Didn’t even respond. Yeaaaaaa I’m glad I found Dr. Furr. He is going to be thorough and take his time. Travel/Flying tips after excision? Travel/Flying tips after excision? I’m going to be traveling to Chattanooga, TN to see Dr. Furr, next Monday. I am having excision, an appendectomy, and a PSN. He is checking my diaphragm, bladder, and I’m possibly having a bowel resection. With that being said, I am staying in TN the day after, and flying back to Colorado. Surgery is on Tuesday, and flying back on Thursday. I will be by myself for the whole thing, including taking an Uber/shuttle to either Nashville or Atlanta which is the closest airports (2 hrs away). Has anyone taken a flight so soon after surgery? Has anyone done this alone? My first two excision surgeries, I was home within an hour. I usually have everything setup in the living room, including food and GasEx. I also had help with getting up. Now it’s just me in a hotel room and then flying back. Not sure what to expect. Thanks! 💛💛 Update: Thank you all for your suggestions!! The surgery ended up being 7 hours! Dr. Furr is keeping me in the hospital till Thursday. My boyfriend managed to get off work and travel with me on Thursday. Phew!! Anyways, thank you again endo warriors!

Dr. Furr suspended my left ovary to my abdominal wall with a dissolvable suture. He mentioned that my pelvic area and floor were raw and inflamed due to all the endo and adhesions. Apparently this would help the healing process and also prevent adhesions. It might be the same deal with you. Hope you are feeling better after the long drive!!

Fair enough. I saw Atashroo and she was the first doctor who believed I had endo. But she did two excisions and Lupron - it didn’t help. She couldn’t help the deep infiltrating endo. But Northshore has a great pain management clinic. Diakos didn’t believe I had endo and she doesn’t believe in pain management. My 3rd excision was with Dr. Furr in Chattanooga, TN. It was the best decision I’ve made so far.

Hi there. So I had deep infiltrating endo in my right pelvic nerves. I had two excision surgeries (plus a plethora of treatments) and yet it remained. It was never seen on an ultrasound or MRI. I was told it was nothing. I could not walk at all, I finally found a Nook surgeon who had more than 300+ cases of deep infiltrating excision under his belt. Just had my surgery last month. I can literally sit in my computer chair for more than 1+ hours. I am not on any pain meds anymore. I have my life back. If they find nothing, don’t give up!!! Your pain is real!!! Please see a specialist who can operate on deep infiltrating. Regular obgyns are not equipped to recognize it. Even some Nook doctors can’t take it out. Join Nancy’s Nook or Endometropolis on Facebook. Or go up r / endo and they have a list on the side map. If you are in the US, I recommend Dr. Robert Furr in Chattanooga, TN. This man has changed my life and I traveled from CO to get the surgery. So remember, don’t pay attention to the ultrasound. Don’t let any doctor minimize your pain.

Abnormal bleeding - First period after excision (3rd excision surgery) Abnormal bleeding - First period after excision (3rd excision surgery) I had my third excision surgery last month. I expected the first period to be horrible, as I’ve already been through this. My first period, after my other two excisions, was my normal heavy bleeding but nothing abnormal. But I woke up this morning to soaking an overnight heavy pad (top to bottom), soaking my underwear (the entire thing!), thick sweatpants, two sheets, a mattress cover, and the mattress! What the hell! I’ve been soaking a heavy pad every hour. Pain is bad but my normal pain before the excision. My chronic 8/10 pain. My periods are usually heavy and taking ibuprofen helps slows the bleeding down(I take it to help the bleeding it doesn’t touch the pain). Took some through out the day and it hasn’t helped. The only time I went to the hospital for abnormal heavy bleeding was due to Lupron. Right now, I’m trying to stay hydrated but I’m weak. Has anyone dealt with this after excision? I’m hoping I don’t need to go to the ER because frankly I’m tired of hospitals. Not sure if I should message my surgeon since he is in another state. Does anything help slow down bleeding besides ibuprofen? Surgery details: Had excision with Dr. Furr in TN. I live in CO. Had deep infiltrating endo removed from my sciatic and hypogastric nerves and right pelvic area, had a PSN, appendectomy, adhesions removed, more endo removed from pelvic floor, endometriomas removed, bowel and bladder separated from abdominal wall and adhesions, and only remaining left ovary suspended with surgical glue. Thanks ladies!

Hi all. Sorry for the late update. I came home from the ER a few hours ago. They said I lost a lot but my body is making it up, so phew!! My iron was low and I was dehydrated so I had fluids and an iron infusion. They gave me pain meds and ultimately said it’s menorrhagia and talk to an obgyn. I’m really confused as to why this happened. I’ve always had heavy periods but not like this. I’ll bring it up to Dr Furr on my post op. I’m really suspecting adenomyosis which I thought a PSN would help. 🤷🏽‍♀️

1.5 Weeks Post-Op with a Nook Excision Surgeon 1.5 Weeks Post-Op with a Nook Excision Surgeon I had surgery with Nook surgeon Dr. Furr 1.5 weeks ago and am starting to feel like myself again. Everything with him and his team has been wonderful. I'd had removal of an endometrioma and a couple little spots of endo via ablation in December of 2018 but felt no relief. This was with a local Reproductive Endocrinologist who then told me that my lingering pain was just scar tissue from the surgery and nothing more could be done. As with so many of us, this was before I really educated myself on endo and excision. Well, Dr. Furr said my insides were a mess. I've been diagnosed with stage 4 endo (up from stage 3 that my previous RE/surgeon thought). My uterus as well as my left ovary were stuck to my rectum. I had an endo nodule growing into the mucosa of my bowels that caused a kink (he resected this). He said I had endo and scar tissue all over my bowels and bladder. He also removed my appendix as well as endometriomas on both ovaries. I don't really have any ovarian tissue left on my left ovary and very little on my right. I've had some hot flashes since the surgery, so I suppose it's time to have my hormones checked again. I'm kind of assuming now that having a child won't be in my future. That being said, I feel so validated. Dr. Furr is fantastic and I feel truly supported. Please feel free to message me if you have questions about Dr. Furr! I'm incredibly sore. It ended up being a 7 hour surgery with his Da Vinci robot and I have 5 incision sites. But he kept me well medicated with an ON-Q pump, Sprix, Marinol, and Percoset. It sounded like a lot to me at first, but honestly it's all necessary. He said that healing will realistically take 6 months, and gave me his personal cell phone number. He also personally came to check in on me at like midnight the night of my surgery since I'd not been able to pee yet. I had to fly from the NYC area to Chattanooga and was a bit worried about the flight back. But what really helped was to have wheelchairs arranged ahead of time with the airlines, to turn up my ON-Q pump a couple hours before leaving for the airport, and to reserve bulkhead window seats. Also, I spend five days in a hotel in Chattanooga. Two days before surgery, I hung out and did my bowel prep. Definitely recommend flying before any bowel prep! I stayed another three days following the surgery, which worked out because I wasn't immediately released. Overall, I'm really glad I found Dr. Furr on the Nook list. On top of everything, he accepts my insurance and everything was pre-approved and fully covered. He approved four to six weeks off work for my STD paperwork (I'm currently on short term disability), though because we're all working from home, I'll likely start working again next week. It sucks to have this disease, but I'm now hopeful that I'll be able to start living somewhat normally again and not need another surgery for a long time.

Hey! Good on you for booking a surgery with an excision expert! Dr. Furr was great. Life pre-op vs now is like night and day. Periods are like... nothing. A few twinges or flutters here and there that don't actually hurt and that's it! No endo bloat. No spending days in bed curled up with heating pads. I wish I'd gone straight to him from the get go. You're in good hands! Be patient with yourself, though. That first week or so was really rough for me. Definitely take as much time as you can to just relax and heal!

I saw Dr. Messinschlager in that practice. Definitely different than my experience with Dr. Furr’s NP. At Furr’s office, I told them my symptoms and the NP was sure I have endo. This office they listened to symptoms, did a pelvic exam, and told me that it’s unlikely I have endo unless it is superficial. He said it was more likely to be musculoskeletal/GI/GU/Psych, which triggered my anxiety of them finding nothing even more. He did offer surgery, so I took that option. He said that he and Dr. Dizon do all of their surgeries together, so at least there will be another set of eyes checking. I hope your experience with Dr. Dizon is better. Also make sure you park at the right place if you are going to the Gunbarrel location. I made the mistake of parking at the women’s center and had to traverse the length of the hospital and take 2 different elevators to get to the office lol

Very quick. My surgery is scheduled for May 8. Which is wild as that was my original surgery date with Dr. Furr.

It really needs to be cut out. You can do all the treatments and the ablation surgeries but it will keep growing unless it’s cut out. Think of it like an iceberg. Endo can grow deep into the tissue it has implanted on. If you’re in the US, look into Dr. Robert Furr in Chatanooga.

The surgeon who left my ovary attached to my abdominal wall was Dr Shana Dowell out of Springfield TN and the amazing, wonderful, best surgeon ever is Dr Robert Furr originally out of Chatanooga TN but his practice is in Tampa FL now. He’s truly a great surgeon and genuinely cares. I cried in his office our first appointment because he actually saw me and believed me.

Center for endometriosis care is in GA Also, if you can get to Florida I highly highly recommend Dr Robert Furr. He saved my life when he was here in TN

I agree so much. I spent a decade and 6 surgeries suffering before I found Dr. Furr. I had docs in Germany and in the states. It makes a HUGE difference having a doctor who actually understands the disease. A lot of them have no clue what they’re even looking at much less what to do with it when they find it. They sure don’t mind doing the surgeries though 🙄 OP, I have heard great things about the center for endometriosis care in GA but I’m not sure how easy it is to get in to see them. I have a list I can send you on DM but the only surgeon I can say for sure knows what he’s doing is Dr. Furr and he’s I think outside of Jacksonville FL now

my endometriosis experience: from a fake stage 1 diagnosis to stage 4 DIE my endometriosis experience: from a fake stage 1 diagnosis to stage 4 DIE hello! call me morgan. today, dec. 29th, 2025, i had an extensive surgery for endo removal. the procedure report was NOT what i expected. let me start from the beginning: 2 years ago. i've been having severe menstrual pain since i was 14. in fact, it was so severe, the amount of ibuprofen i took on my period (800mg every 6 hours, round the clock pretty much) caused me to develop nsaid-induced chronic gastritis. i have now switched to aleve. fast forward to october 2023, i go and have laparoscopic surgery with an obgyn. note that she is not a specialist, and mainly deals with pregnancy instead. i come out of the surgery being told i was only in there for 30-45 minutes, and that i have stage 1 endo, found on my uterus and rectum. with my pain so severe, i was confused at that, but rolled with it, as i know pain can widely vary, and some with stage 1 have no or very little pain, and some have debilitating pain. after the surgery, i wasn't in a lot of pain and didn't have to take many pain meds, which got my mom thinking that something wasn't right. i should note: before the 2023 surgery, i had a transvaginal ultrasound, and figured out i have retroflexion of the uterus, as well as an arcuate uterus. i'm not sure if those were birth defects, or formed over a long period of time. 6 months later, i had another, regular appointment with the obgyn. she proceeds to tell me she also found pcos. why did she wait to tell me? no idea. but it explained my weight gain, insulin resistance, and hirsutism. jumping forward to a few months ago. my mom found a VERY reputable endo specialist who was moving from tennessee to my area of florida. if any of you know who dr. robert furr is, that's who i'm talking about. it seemed like a calling to see him, almost. especially considering he was moving right to our area. so, we went to see him for surgery consideration, and he mentioned he would do a nerve snip to help my pain. i didn't even know that was an option. i could tell he knew a LOT. he also mentioned my previous surgeon, the obgyn, did not excise my lesions, but rather ablated them. and as a lot of us with endo know, that's not exactly the best way to go about removal, and is really just a fast, lazy way out. now skipping to today: december 29th, 2025. i have the surgery and go into the recovery room. my care team told me i was in there for about 3.5 hours. that seemed much more reasonable than 45 minutes. and then they gave me my paperwork. he found and excised stage 4, deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE for short) on 7 different organs. those organs were: my uterus, rectum (already knew about those, but didn't know it was stage 4 DIE), intestines, bladder, appendix (which he removed), fallopian tubes, and 1 ovary. my online summary was more broad, saying he found and excised "widespread superficial and deep infiltrative pelvic, extrapelvic, and fibrotic endometriosis". i was also diagnosed with RPF (retroperitoneal fibrosis), also known as ormond's disease. i'm unsure if this is from my severe endometriosis or if it's idiopathic, i will probably know more once i have my post-op appointment on the 20th of january. there was also a medical student tagging along with dr. furr who was watching my procedure, which i'm actually very happy about. i hope she learned a lot from my case, and i hope that what she saw can help bring just the tiniest bit more awareness to how debilitating this condition can really be. i'm currently writing this with 6 incisions on my torso, laying in my bed, resting to help my body heal. if anybody has read to this point, i thank you so, so much for being interested in my journey. if anyone has any questions, i heavily encourage you to ask them! i am very open about my medical experiences, especially to people who are experiencing similar things and/or want to learn. and to everybody out there with endo, just know that i see you, i hear you, and you are not alone in any of this. 🫶

doing amazing, thank you!! my scars are fully closed. still visible of course, but they don't hurt anymore. yes, that's most likely the same dr. furr. we (as in, my mom and i) always had to drive about 45 mins, and we had to cross a bridge, to see him. and i live in the largo area. he's such a wonderful doctor, i hope everything goes well with him and that you can get a solution to your endo! 🫶

Not sure if you're still looking for someone. I just had a consult with a young Dr near Atlanta, Dr. Whitney Barnes and I really like her so far. Also, she gave me Dr. Mitch Dizon's name at Erlanger in Chattanooga. I may see him, depending on what my MRI looks like and what Dr Barnes says, but so far I'm really happy with her. Her bedside manner is much better than Dr Furr and she spends time to go through treatment options which was nice. I had surgery with Dr. Furr and I think he is a good surgeon but his bedside manner sucked (maybe it was just me cause others have said he was great🤷).

Glad Dr Dizon is so compassionate. A hysterectomy is a possibility for me as well but I have no children so that's a bit tougher. I am scheduled to see him the 16th of this month but I want to get this MRI done and see what Dr Barnes says first because I want all the information I can get. I had stage 4 endometriosis in my surgery with Furr 6 years ago and a confirmed IC diagnosis. I also have Crohn's so I'm probably slight more complicated than some. Praying we both get the answers and treatment we need. Did you go ahead and schedule surgery? I'm curious how far out he is scheduling?

I traveled just outside Atlanta for surgery and had a great experience with a female surgeon. I had 2 appointments with Dr Dizon and they were super short/rushed and very uninformative. The surgeon near Atlanta spent 30-45 minutes at every appointment and answered every question, laid out all options, performed an exam, ordered an MRI, ordered pelvic floor PT (after my exam she said I had significant pelvic floor dysfunction). I had 2 previous endometriosis surgeries, an ablation with my regular GYN and excision with Dr Furr in 2018. The recent surgery was a much better experience and my surgeon was much more transparent. Her name is Whitney Barnes.
