Hi! Feel free to DM me and definitely keep in touch. It really takes a community. I’ll try to answer your questions the best way I can and in the most positive way lol. You’re right in the uterus lottery :(. I’ve actually had 3 surgeries because the doctor before couldn’t handle my case until this last excision specialist who is in Chattanooga and I highly recommend (Dr. Furr). I would never go to a gyno for surgery. Always go and talk to an endo specialist. Did your doctor unblock your tubes? What’s your surgery report say? Also, IVF drugs can stimulate adeno/endo making it grow and causing complications. I live in Nashville and I don’t know anyone that got their IVF taken care of because they had adeno, fibroids, or endo. But I will cross my fingers yours does. IVF is also its own beast. Start calling your health insurance to see what they cover. Also what part of the country are you located in?

I feel the same way about Nook and the CEC. I went with Dr. Furr. He is very qualified and takes insurance. Just research the crap out of the excision specialist and ask other ladies how they feel about their experience and how they are months, years later. DM with any questions

I just had my third excision with a certified excision specialist (Dr. Furr who also was taught under the same surgeon as Sinervo). He checked my kidneys and ureters, thankfully. Because what he thought was scar tissue wrapped around my right Ureter (causing it to almost stop working which almost caused my kidney to fail) WAS in fact endometriosis. I’ve had a stent for 6 weeks and it’s been brutal. I would definitely make sure your surgeon can check your ureters and all the other places as much as possible. I can’t express how important it is to have that especially since you feel pain. Im so sorry as well.
Also Nancy’s Nook can suck it lol. The fact that she doesn’t let you leave a bad review is BS. I trusted that website for my first excision specialist and she (Dr. Amanda Yunker’s) was terrible. Left me in more pain than before and then when I asked for help again she said “hysterectomy or nothing”. Im glad I didn’t listen to her and found Dr. Robert Furr. That’s all. Lol

Dr Robert Furr who use to be in Chattanooga, TN but moved to Tampa, FL is a skilled excision surgeon. I’ve had multiple surgeries but only due to having stage 4 Endo/adeno and IVF. Ask me anything! I’m an open book and stand by Dr Furr. I’ve had two other surgeries before him that were with terrible surgeons who said they experienced but weren’t. They were on the Nook list which I don’t recommend due to not being able to leave a negative review but the list she has is a good starting point and then I would recommend asking or searching to see who also had that excision specialist and what their experience was. But I’ve been advocating since 2018 and can help.

Travel/Flying tips after excision?
I’m going to be traveling to Chattanooga, TN to see Dr. Furr, next Monday. I am having excision, an appendectomy, and a PSN. He is checking my diaphragm, bladder, and I’m possibly having a bowel resection.
With that being said, I am staying in TN the day after, and flying back to Colorado. Surgery is on Tuesday, and flying back on Thursday. I will be by myself for the whole thing, including taking an Uber/shuttle to either Nashville or Atlanta which is the closest airports (2 hrs away).
Has anyone taken a flight so soon after surgery? Has anyone done this alone?
My first two excision surgeries, I was home within an hour. I usually have everything setup in the living room, including food and GasEx. I also had help with getting up. Now it’s just me in a hotel room and then flying back.
Not sure what to expect. Thanks! 💛💛
Update: Thank you all for your suggestions!! The surgery ended up being 7 hours! Dr. Furr is keeping me in the hospital till Thursday. My boyfriend managed to get off work and travel with me on Thursday. Phew!! Anyways, thank you again endo warriors!

It was a long surgery and I have 6 incisions. So moving around hasn’t been the best. I also have nerve pain from where he removed endo from my nerves, but my endo pain is gone. I will say that you probably won’t feel the best until two weeks out. I’m back at work and sitting has been pretty painful. What hospital are you at? Park ridge or Erlanghers?

Ah good! Yea that’s where I went to and everyone was so nice. Omg! Do you have pillows? It helped me cushion the incisions on the ride back to Nashville. Ah I’m so sorry :( Yea definitely rest when you get home and when you need to sleep, SLEEP! He is so thorough with excision that your body will need to rest a lot. I had two excisions before and the recovery now was so much worse than before.

Fair enough. I saw Atashroo and she was the first doctor who believed I had endo. But she did two excisions and Lupron - it didn’t help. She couldn’t help the deep infiltrating endo. But Northshore has a great pain management clinic.
Diakos didn’t believe I had endo and she doesn’t believe in pain management.
My 3rd excision was with Dr. Furr in Chattanooga, TN. It was the best decision I’ve made so far.

Abnormal bleeding - First period after excision (3rd excision surgery)
I had my third excision surgery last month. I expected the first period to be horrible, as I’ve already been through this. My first period, after my other two excisions, was my normal heavy bleeding but nothing abnormal.
But I woke up this morning to soaking an overnight heavy pad (top to bottom), soaking my underwear (the entire thing!), thick sweatpants, two sheets, a mattress cover, and the mattress! What the hell! I’ve been soaking a heavy pad every hour. Pain is bad but my normal pain before the excision. My chronic 8/10 pain.
My periods are usually heavy and taking ibuprofen helps slows the bleeding down(I take it to help the bleeding it doesn’t touch the pain). Took some through out the day and it hasn’t helped. The only time I went to the hospital for abnormal heavy bleeding was due to Lupron. Right now, I’m trying to stay hydrated but I’m weak.
Has anyone dealt with this after excision? I’m hoping I don’t need to go to the ER because frankly I’m tired of hospitals. Not sure if I should message my surgeon since he is in another state. Does anything help slow down bleeding besides ibuprofen?
Surgery details: Had excision with Dr. Furr in TN. I live in CO. Had deep infiltrating endo removed from my sciatic and hypogastric nerves and right pelvic area, had a PSN, appendectomy, adhesions removed, more endo removed from pelvic floor, endometriomas removed, bowel and bladder separated from abdominal wall and adhesions, and only remaining left ovary suspended with surgical glue.
Thanks ladies!

If you can travel to Chattanooga, TN, I recommend Dr. Robert Furr. He’s a Nook surgeon but he is so thorough. He checks the diaphragm and all the way down. He got rid of all my deep infiltrating endo. He is so nice and awesome. The office also helped me with my insurance and let me pay a fraction to get surgery scheduled. Well worth traveling from Denver to Chattanooga.

It really needs to be cut out. You can do all the treatments and the ablation surgeries but it will keep growing unless it’s cut out. Think of it like an iceberg. Endo can grow deep into the tissue it has implanted on. If you’re in the US, look into Dr. Robert Furr in Chatanooga.

The surgeon who left my ovary attached to my abdominal wall was Dr Shana Dowell out of Springfield TN and the amazing, wonderful, best surgeon ever is Dr Robert Furr originally out of Chatanooga TN but his practice is in Tampa FL now. He’s truly a great surgeon and genuinely cares. I cried in his office our first appointment because he actually saw me and believed me.

Also, if you can get to Florida I highly highly recommend Dr Robert Furr. He saved my life when he was here in TN

I agree so much. I spent a decade and 6 surgeries suffering before I found Dr. Furr. I had docs in Germany and in the states. It makes a HUGE difference having a doctor who actually understands the disease. A lot of them have no clue what they’re even looking at much less what to do with it when they find it. They sure don’t mind doing the surgeries though 🙄
OP, I have heard great things about the center for endometriosis care in GA but I’m not sure how easy it is to get in to see them. I have a list I can send you on DM but the only surgeon I can say for sure knows what he’s doing is Dr. Furr and he’s I think outside of Jacksonville FL now

Anyone seeing Dr. Furr in Chattanooga?
Anyone else seeing Furr in Chattanooga?
I went to renew a prescription via the patient portal and received a message stating that they closed down and couldn’t fill it.
After doing a little digging I’ve found he has moved to a different practice in Florida.
Wtf are his patients supposed to do now? I was on a pain management plan and have 3 prescriptions through him that I can’t get refilled anymore.
I can’t believe there was no letter sent out, no communication, not a word about the closing..

Unfortunately dr. Furr has been my only doc for the past few years so I have to get set up with someone new. Hence even more annoyance with the situation bc I don’t have enough meds to last that long 🤬Arghhhh. There’s got to be more people in the same spot as us. Hes fucking over sooo many endo warriors.
I’m gonna call once the new office opens and use what someone else on this post suggested- stating medical abandonment and see if I can at least get a temp refill until I can find someone to take over the pain management side.

Ugh that’s exactly what I did, I emailed jessica asking what to do in this situation and if she recommended I go cold turkey off the meds. (😅😂). my refill was sent within 30 mins of sending that email! It worked!! Looks like I have 90 pills so 90 days to get this shit figured out, which should be enough time!. Ugh it shouldn’t be this hard after everything we’ve gone through!!
I still have to get my records but no clue where to go at the moment, maybe I’ll just get it sent to myself so I have them and can take with me when I find a good match.
Thank you for your support and advice! 💛💛

Can you try calling Dr. Furr’s new office? 813-738-6690. That was going to be my next step if I couldn’t get ahold of anyone at the Chattanooga office. Tell them you’ve been medically abandoned and need to speak to someone about a refill until you can find a new doctor.

Please help! Looking for a specialist around TN that isn’t Dr. Furr
Does anyone have recommendations for a specialist around East Tennessee that isn’t Dr. Furr? I was supposed to have an appointment today and it was canceled this morning. This is the second time my appointment with him has been canceled the day of the appointment. Covid both times. The scheduler told me he gets sick a lot. I told her I would mail him a box of masks.
So that’s two trips wasted. Two hotel stays. Time off work wasted.
Someone that accepts insurance is ideal. I don’t have $15k to go to the surgery center in Atlanta.

Finally have surgery scheduled!!!!
I finally have my first surgery scheduled with Dr. Furr in Chattanooga, TN!!
I’ve posted a few times in the past several months about my frustration due to having 2 surgery consultations with him cancelled the day of my appointments. (I live 3 hours away and was already in Chattanooga both times.) The first being in September and the second on January 2nd. After being told my one member of his office staff that his Nurse Practitioner couldn’t do surgery consultations but then seeing posts/reviews that indicated otherwise I called again! I was able to schedule an appointment with the NP, Jessica Smith and she was great! I was able to get surgery scheduled while I was at the office!
My surgery is April 23rd! Surgery will be done using the Da Vinci Robot. In addition to excision of any endometriosis that might be found, he will be doing an appendectomy, cystoscopy, bladder installation, and possibly a presacral neurectomy.
I’m not 100% sure I am comfortable with the presacral neurectomy. I have an appointment scheduled with Dr. Furr for Feb 20th that I didn’t cancel yet. I still may go so I can speak to him directly about the procedures before the day of surgery.
I’m nervous but hopeful. I just want some answers!

I believe my appointment is with Mitch Dizon. At least that is who I asked for. I guess I’ll find out! 😬 I’ve only ever had one other male gynecologist. Dr. Furr never did a physical exam on me so I’m not counting him. Ideally I prefer female practitioners but I really just want a great surgeon. Hopefully it’s not too uncomfortable for you.

Yes, after 4 separate trips to Chattanooga and one cancelled surgery with Dr. Furr. 😢 I had a consult with Dr. Dizon yesterday. I really liked him and he was very empathetic in regard to everything I had gone through with Dr. Furr. Dr. Dizon also noticed some things on my most recent ultrasound that had not previously been discussed with me. From my scans he thinks I would greatly benefit from a hysterectomy but he was not pushy about it at all and answered all my questions without acting the least bit annoyed. I even discussed with him some medications Dr. Furr had prescribed without much discussion. I had not started taking them yet. Dr. Dizon was very supportive of that decision saying I shouldn’t take anything I wasn’t comfortable with especially since the medications are for interstitial cystitis. I don’t currently have a confirmed diagnosis of IC. He will be checking for that during my surgery. He will also be checking for endometriosis and will remove my appendix if stage II, II

Of course! I loved Dr. Furr and I feel he did an excellent job. My only realistic complaint was that his office was hard to get through to sometimes, but they were busy. He recently relocated to Florida, so I'm not sure if that will still be an issue.

Here's the link to Nancy's Nook on Facebook. The files stored here are absolutely worth it. The surgeon list and reviews are the most valuable imo. I also wrote an appeal to my insurance when they weren't playing nice, but I didn't need to send it. Things worked out. The examples stored here were very useful.

I pray things turn out well for you. I went on and off birth control for those 6 years and never had so much as a positive test the whole time. Surgery was absolutely necessary.
I asked Dr. Furr what stage I had and he said those are not an accurate indicator of disease. This wasn't said in a hateful way, but that they can be kind of arbitrary when it comes to the impact and spread of disease. He said for Stage III, endo had to be on one ovary and both ovaries for Stage IV. My pelvis and uterus were ravaged, but I could only be called Stage II because there was no endo on my ovaries. I have a theory, and it's just a theory because I am not medically trained, that removing Endo lowered the inflammation in my body and helped my tubes. I never got to do my 6 month follow up and ask questions, but that's my guess. Again, not a doctor and I'm very against spreading misinformation, but I have ovulated from both sides and I'm on my second pregnancy.

Same! I also saw Dr Furr in TN and surgery was life changing. Like OP, I was TERRIFIED of surgery because I'd never had a serious medical procedure before. Everything turned out okay and excision surgery was the only way to fix my six years of infertility.
I echo another comment that said find and EXPERT with a lot of experience. General GYNs or REs are not typically who you want to handle surgery.

I wasn’t able to login to my patient portal, so I’m not sure if it’s shut down or just not working for me at the moment but I did contact his new office with that number you provided. They said that he does not start there until 6/10/24 but they will be in touch with him regarding me and several other patients that have called in regarding him abandoning his patients and no prescription refills. I'm so happy for you! I had my phone/video consult with Dr. Furr in March and will be traveling to TN from the NYC area for my surgery later this month.
I had surgery end-2018. Ablation and removal of an endometrioma, too. But honestly relief never really came.
I felt the same way about my conversation with him, too. He really listened, gave great insight, and I feel like I can trust him.
Whatever you decide going forward, it's certainly comforting to know that doctors like Dr. Furr exist and are there for us.

Not sure if you're still looking for someone. I just had a consult with a young Dr near Atlanta, Dr. Whitney Barnes and I really like her so far. Also, she gave me Dr. Mitch Dizon's name at Erlanger in Chattanooga. I may see him, depending on what my MRI looks like and what Dr Barnes says, but so far I'm really happy with her. Her bedside manner is much better than Dr Furr and she spends time to go through treatment options which was nice. I had surgery with Dr. Furr and I think he is a good surgeon but his bedside manner sucked (maybe it was just me cause others have said he was great🤷).

Glad Dr Dizon is so compassionate. A hysterectomy is a possibility for me as well but I have no children so that's a bit tougher. I am scheduled to see him the 16th of this month but I want to get this MRI done and see what Dr Barnes says first because I want all the information I can get. I had stage 4 endometriosis in my surgery with Furr 6 years ago and a confirmed IC diagnosis. I also have Crohn's so I'm probably slight more complicated than some. Praying we both get the answers and treatment we need. Did you go ahead and schedule surgery? I'm curious how far out he is scheduling?

I traveled just outside Atlanta for surgery and had a great experience with a female surgeon. I had 2 appointments with Dr Dizon and they were super short/rushed and very uninformative. The surgeon near Atlanta spent 30-45 minutes at every appointment and answered every question, laid out all options, performed an exam, ordered an MRI, ordered pelvic floor PT (after my exam she said I had significant pelvic floor dysfunction). I had 2 previous endometriosis surgeries, an ablation with my regular GYN and excision with Dr Furr in 2018. The recent surgery was a much better experience and my surgeon was much more transparent. Her name is Whitney Barnes.

I had surgery with him in 2018 and then in October of 2023. I also had a prescription get denied when renewing for Gabapentin after a surgery complication. So, I’m also pretty shocked that there was no communication. I would do what Ok Ordinary suggested. I’m in a different state, so I will try to find a specialist near me. But ugh!
