“Patient had surgery with Chatburn and praises his honesty about limitations and referral practices. Also notes he helped train Kapetanakis, Ketharaju, and O'Rourke-Suchoff. Trained with Kip Mackenzie. Moving to private practice (out-of-network) Feb 1, 2026. Phone: 617-716-7000. Luke Chatburn did my surgery and I have only good things to say about him. One thing I like about him is that he will tell you directly if he doesn't think he can help.”

My partner and I both got late Sept appointments with Dr Chatburn, scheduled last week. I’m guessing surgery is much harder to get on the calendar, and from my understanding Dr Chatburn only had Mondays available for appointments as of when my partner called. I’ve seen nook positive reviews of both Dr Mackenzie and Dr Chatburn, but not as much chatter about Dr Kapetanakis or the dr from Brigham and Woman’s.

I’ll check out Dr Parent.. I wasn’t loving the idea of a male gyn due to my trauma history, but I’ve heard that Dr Chatburn is very empathetic so it might be alright anyways

If you're comfortable sharing your opinion of Dr Chatburn, I'd love to hear it. I have an appt with him in Sept. I'm guessing that this was so long ago that you're not going to see this, but if you do, I'd love to repost your review on r/dr_reviews_gyn :)

Theo Kapatenakis is moving to Connecticut this month. Luke Chatburn isn’t accepting new patients. But there are other options that are just as good nearby. You may want to check out [Greater Boston Endo Support Group](https://facebook.com/groups/gbesg)! The old admins stepped down, so things have been changing in the group quite a bit.

You may want to check out [Greater Boston Endo Support Group](https://facebook.com/groups/gbesg)! By the way, Dr Louise Perkins King has terrible reviews in GBESG. Theo Kapetanakis moved to Connecticut, Sept 2025. Luke Chatburn isn’t accepting new patients. They’re excellent. GBESG has a list of doctors, and no it’s not exclusive to the Nancy’s Nook doctors. The old GBESG admins stepped down, so things have been changing in the group quite a bit.

Luke Chatburn did my surgery and I have only good things to say about him. He is busy though. Kip trained a lot of surgeons nearby though! Luke Chatburn also assisted a thoracic surgeon in an endometriosis surgery back in October 2024. Only a couple other local endo surgeons have done that in Boston (Thomas Gallant & Antonio Gargiulo). One thing I like about him is that he will tell you directly if he doesn’t think he can help. He suggested one patient get a consult at [The Center for Endometriosis Care](https://centerforendo.com) in Atlanta, GA for example after there was suspicion of right sided diaphragmatic endo and he had already thoroughly examined her left diaphragm (which was clear). The right side requires liver mobilization, which is risky. The drs in Boston just don’t have a high volume of thoracic cases right now, so I believe he was wise to refer her. The CEC has the most experience with diaphragmatic/thoracic endo in the world.

From what I heard, Kapetanakis’ patients get moved the the END of Chatburn’s two year long waitlist (which is not fair, but neither is having Chatburn’s patients bumped to allow Kapetanakis’ patients “cut” in line). Alternatively, you could follow Kapetanakis to Connecticut if you wanted to. If neither of these options make sense for you, then [GBESG](https://facebook.com/groups/gbesg) has plenty more on the list nearby.

They found an endometrioma on my right ovary during IVF! Didn’t know it was a potential issue beforehand & originally thought it was a sperm issue only (all my other tests were in range). I’m opting to get a lap. locally with a doctor at Mt. Auburn (affiliated with Harvard) as it will be covered by insurance & my doctor (Chatburn) only deals with laps for endo. Just wanted to mention because I know travel is a pain. Although maybe things are different for me since I have more or less confirmed endo from the ultrasounds, which definitely isn’t true for everyone. We’re wanting to bank at least a few before the lap because I’ve heard mixed things on how lap affects reserve. My doctor at Mt. Auburn said he sees AMH take an initial dip then recover to baseline as you heal. And strongly thinking no additional transfers before lap. So I hear you on wanting to get a few banked!! Fingers crossed 🤞

I was diagnosed during IVF where over many months an endometrioma on my right ovary was classic in appearance and consistent! I am working to schedule my lap hopefully this year with Dr. Chatburn at Mt. Auburn. I’ve always had awful periods and cramps (calling out of work, etc) but no one took me seriously until I struggled with fertility. 🥹 only suggested BCP which always made me depressed to the point of suicidal thoughts so it wasn’t an option. I didn’t know about endometriosis & how it may be what was causing my symptoms until I went through IVF.

Agree you need to see a specialist. I’m at mount aburn in Boston with Dr. Chatburn, all they do is endo excision and hysterectomies.

First period after excision: much better First period after excision: much better I just wrapped up my first period after surgery and it was actually MUCH better than usual. I only used pads (usually I need to double up) and although I did need to change every hour for 1/2 of CD2, most of my changes were every 2-4 hours which is unbelievable to me as someone who will need a cup or super tampon AND a pad and change every 1-3 hours for 1-2 days & still end up bleeding through onto pants or sheets at least once!!! I had pretty bad pain the morning of CD2, but not day 1 or 3. And my period was over day 3 instead of 4-6. My clots were also smaller. One caveat: I was on birth control for a month prior to excision which may have helped. I also have diffuse adenomyosis. I was stage 3/4 (dr hasn’t confirmed yet) with several endometriomas removed, and one that had burst and left lesions all over. Dr. Chatburn at MAH excised from my r ovary, uterus, vagina, rectum/lower bowel, bladder, ureters, and diaphragm and removed my appendix. I just wanted to share because I was REALLY nervous about my first period since so many have a rougher time for their first few cycles. It MAY not be as bad, so try not to psych yourself out too much. But obviously be prepared for it to be rough as well. ❤️❤️❤️w

I saw Dr. Chatburn and had an amazing experience. He spent an extra 2.5 hours in my surgery since I was worse than expected, getting every last spot. I feel so much better only 3 months out and have had minimal post op issues, healed very quick. He only does excision, no ablation, and also was able to save my ovary that had a large endometrioma in it & was mindful of fertility goals. Dr. K (Greek name, I don’t remember) is also out of that office and fantastic feedback as well. I joined the greater Boston endo support group on Facebook and learned so much there for doctors in the area, and who to avoid.

The two main surgeons in Boston are Luke Chatburn and Malcolm "Kip" McKenzie. Some see Dr. Gargulio or Dr. Jorgensen. I'd call those offices and see what insurance the accept. Preferable the first two.

I had a lap excision 6 weeks ago with Dr. Luke Chatburn and I can not recommend him enough. He is so thorough, patient and kind, And takes so much time to ensure you are comfortable and heard. The hospital they use is consent driven and super knowledgeable. Even my PACu nurse asked before he helped put my shoes on. Dr. Malcolm "kip" McKenzie is the other renound surgeon in the area. Chatburn, McKenzie, and Kapanakis (all trained by Dr. M himself) just opened the Endometriosis Care Center a few months ago. I also hear people like Dr. Emily Parent at BWH (I think).

Specialist Consultation Advice Specialist Consultation Advice Hello Endo Friendos, I have my first appointment with a Nook specialist (Dr. Chatburn) on Monday. And the pre-appointment anxiety is getting me. I've been diagnosed for about a year (5cm chocolate cyst seen on imaging) but never had a lap, and going on a higher dose hormonal medication isn't an option because of the side effects and brain fog that impact my ability to function at work. Does anyone have any advice or anecdotes about how the appointment will go? How do you push for surgery with excision? How do they determine if you're even a candidate? What normally happens during the consultation? Thank you in advance!

I'm going back under for a persistent ovary that likes to grow baseball sized endometriomas for fun and unexplained upper GI issues - the GI doctor referred me back to Dr. Chatburn after a lot of testing, and Dr. Chatburn agrees that there's a chance that I have some growth on ribs and stomach (cross your fingers he's right) that he didn't look for since it's uncommon and I wasn't presenting with those issues 4+ years ago when I first saw him. I started hurting again after 8 months, but that was when the cyst popped back up.

Experiences with Dr. Chatburn in Boston? Experiences with Dr. Chatburn in Boston? A couple of months ago, I met with Dr. Luke Chatburn for an endo consultation. I've read so many horror stories on this sub about being gaslighted (gaslit?) by doctors for years, so I was expecting the same. However, I loved his overall demeanor, and he made me feel so seen & heard. He agreed that all of my symptoms line up with those of endo, and suggested I may also have adeno. Ultimately, we agreed that it would be a good idea to consider a diagnostic lap/excision in the near future ("whenever you're ready, we'll be here to help" were his words)...I'd like to set it up within the year. I'm feeling very lucky to have had such a pleasant experience & feel confident that I'm in good hands...but, as a chronic self-sabotoager, I also can't help but think something here *has to be* too good to be true. **Is anyone willing to share their experience with him, please?** I'm also concerned about the cost. I'm on BCBS, and am having a hard time breaking down what my out-of pocket cost will be. I know it varies by plan, and I will make some calls, but I'd like to also know of others' experiences. I don't know how I'll ever be able to afford anything that's in the thousands, even with a payment plan. Thank you so, so much in advance. I love this community!

It was a 6 month wait for me, which is actually *shorter* than it normally is for the particular specialist I went with. I was told I might be able to find another with a shorter wait if I wanted, but the wait was due to just how high the demand is to get onto Dr. Chatburn's schedule, so I decided I'd rather wait to be treated by one of the best endo specialists available and have it all done right the first time around. Currently 2 weeks post op and feeling 100% convinced I made the right choice!

If you have access to a specialist and can afford to see them, do it 100% definitely for sure. I wish I could explain this better, but I see Dr. Chatburn in Boston and he told me my recent tachycardia and increased heart rate is from endometriosis. I don't remember the details, but he said he gets patients all the time who have gotten a full cardio workup and the cardiologists refer them to him and the other specialists. Something something fight or flight response. I was completely shocked when he brought it up because I hadn't mentioned it at all. In regards to diaphragm endo, I don't suspect it and neither do the specialists. It's mostly GI involvement for me.

Have you tried calling Mt. Auburn's Endo Center in Waltham? Dr. Chatburn and Dr. Kapetanakis might be taking new patients, but they are booking initial appointments three months out and surgeries in June. They're both expert excision surgeons and I've been really impressed by Dr. Chatburn's approach. I'm not sure if they're on Nancy's list, but they work with Dr. Mackenzie, who most certainly is. He's considered to be the best, but he was weirdly dismissive at my appointment in 2019. That's just my experience. He was very kind, to be fair. Iirc he's not taking new patients.

Dr. Chatburn's office currently can't book new patients due to the other endo specialist leaving for CT. Chatburn is inheriting his patients. Dr. Kapetanakis hasn't left yet, but the CT location may work for OP, too. I am not sure how far upstate OP is, though. Some places upstate are like, eight hours away from Boston.

Most gynecologists are not endo specialists and many have outdated knowledge or misinformation (especially about endometriosis). Go to the Nancy’s Nook Facebook group ([link](https://www.facebook.com/share/1ShuYiGLW14pUFWQ/?mibextid=dzYiin) and click on Files, there you will find the list of internationally recognized endometriosis specialists. Also check out [their website](https://nancysnookendo.com/welcome-to-nancys-nook/) to find more educational resources about endometriosis and adenomyosis.
