I've heard Dr. Matthew Siedhoff in LA is really good, he works out of Cedars Sinai, so I would think he takes most insurances but you'd have to call his office to be sure. I had surgery with Dr. Camran Nezhat in Palo Alto, but I can't recommend him (lots of disease left behind and a botched endometrioma removal). I also had a consult with Dr. Andrew Cook in Palo Alto but he is out of network with most if not all insurances, and I wasn't super impressed with how he described his surgical techniques.

I had surgery with him two years ago, endometrioma removal from my left ovary and extensive excision (stage 4 disease). I had a tough recovery, lots of pain and though I had some relief for a few months, was gradually in pain more and more of the month. I ended up going to the CEC in Atlanta for a second surgery. The surgeon found tons of endo left behind (more than he thought could have grown back over one year), and my left ovary was in two pieces with a new endometrioma growing out of it (it had to be removed completely). My recovery at the CEC was much much much less painful and much easier. I felt a lot better a lot sooner than with my first surgery. I can't recommend Dr. Nezhat based on my personal results. I'm also not totally sure that he was the one that performed my surgery (this is a somewhat common question among his past patients, you may want to join Nancy's Nook and do a search to see others' experiences). My most recent surgeon thinks that a fellow possibly did the surg

I had surgery with Dr. Camran Nezhat in Palo Alto (already submitted feedback - I personally can't recommend him, but I know others have had success with him). I had a second surgery with Dr. Ken Sinervo including PSN. He was amazing, his staff is absolutely amazing, the entire experience was specifically geared towards reducing pain and healing time as much as possible (they humidify and heat the CO2, they use platelet therapy to reduce adhesions etc etc). I'm 9 months out and in no daily pain. No more bloating, much less fatigue, no pain with sex or activity (even running). Highly recommend him.

Please do. Dr. Sinervo is certainly worth a look. Also I can also recommend from personal experience that you avoid Dr. Camran Nezhat as well, I had very poor results from surgery with him (or one of his fellows, it's hard to tell who actually did my surgery - which is a problem in and of itself).

Dr. Camran Nezhat is in network with BCBS last I checked, he's near Stanford. I had surgery with him but had a very poor result. My second surgeon thinks a fellow did most of the operation and I have to agree. If you absolutely must go in-network nearby you could consider him, but you have to insist from day 1 that he do the surgery and no fellows. When they consent you for the surgery, cross out the paragraphs saying that you allow fellows/residents to work on you. Do not consent to fellows working on you. Even still, he may have fellows work on you, his practice is a little iffy. But there are certainly patients of his that feel that he did a good job for them.
If you can travel, you might call Dr. Cindy Mosbrucker in Gig Harbor, WA and see if she is in contract with BCBS. I've heard nothing but wonderful things about her. She's super experienced and just moved into a private practice, so is slowly adding insurances. There is also a doctor in Los Angeles, Dr. Matthew Siedhoff that d

I'm so sorry that happened to you. Something similar happened with me with Dr. Camran Nezhat, so much endo was missed including DIE. We think in my case a fellow did much of my surgery. I saw Sinervo after him and he found endo everywhere and I've had so much more relief following that surgery. Thank you for sharing, it's important to hear all sides.

There are several good excision surgeons in NYC, check the Successful Doctors map on the sidebar and Nancy's Nook on FB. There's only one surgeon in SF currently on the nook list, Dr. Jessica Opoku-Anane, she is through UCSF so almost certainly will take insurance but I'm not sure how much feedback there is on her surgical skills. There are a few excision surgeons on the list in Los Angeles, a bit of a drive or a short flight away but may be covered if you go with CA insurance.
I've seen Dr. Cook for two separate consults and got the same vibe as you, maybe not the most skilled? He also was out of network with my insurance and was going to be very expensive. I ended up going with Nezhat for my first surgery, got no relief and then traveled to the CEC for a second surgery where endo was found everywhere. I can't recommend Nezhat unfortunately.
Best of luck and please keep us updated!

I had a bad experience with Dr. Camran Nezhat in Palo Alto, he did my first surgery and I had very little relief and a very prolonged healing time. I had a second surgery a year later with an excision specialist at the CEC in Atlanta and endo was found everywhere. I've also met with Dr. Andrew Cook in San Jose, he was nice but I wasn't totally sure about his surgical skill and he was totally out of network for me.
There's a doc that was just added to Nancy's Nook (facebook page) excision specialist list, Dr. Jessica Opoku-Anane, she's at UCSF. They have a comprehensive endo team with a pain specialist etc. I haven't seen a lot of feedback on her surgical skill level yet but she might be a good general endo specialist.

Unfortunately I did not have a positive experience with Dr. Nezhat. I had a lot of disease left behind and a botched endometrioma excision which ended up costing me an ovary when the endometrioma grew back. I've heard from patients of his that DID have a great experience and great outcome. I worry that he did not actually do the bulk of my surgery, that a fellow or his niece did. Make sure you know going in who exactly is doing your surgery and how skilled they are. Best of luck!

just a fair warning they immediately start with a transvaginal ultrasound to check for anything prior to scheduling you. i told him i was really uncomfortable and he ended up letting me insert the probe myself and move it in the direction he told me to. i didn’t feel uncomfortable talking to him at all and i never would’ve thought he’d let me do the exam myself but he did!

I had surgery with Dr camran Nezhat for stage 4 endo in December 2022. I will not be going back. There were so many issues with them dropping my insurance the day before I flew out for my surgery. It ended up working out, but after care was awful. I was very disappointed he did not show me any pictures from my surgery. His staff is completely unprofessional and made so many mistakes. Super disappointed for how much I paid for traveling, out of pocket fees, etc. It took me 3 months to feel any relief, and it really only lasted a couple months. I was super disappointed overall. I feel like I should’ve known better than to trust all his social media videos. 😬 I’ve heard Center for Endo Care in Georgia is a good option.

Yes and no, I’ve been getting mixed answers for years now. My current fertility specialist believes the inflammation in body is from the endo and not a separate auto immune issue. I also had a few issues with my uterine lining that was fixed during surgery that have also been a cause (uterine septum, scarring, etc.). The only fix for those is surgery so another reason the meds didn’t work.
Just know there is nothing wrong with going another avenue to start your family. It’s important to take care of yourself and do what is right for you. 🩷

Fibroid/endometriosis: Dr Nezhat and Dr Orady
Hey everyone!
I’m in my early 30s and based in San Francisco. I’ve been diagnosed with fibroids and possibly endometriosis, and I’m struggling to choose the right surgeon. So far, I’ve consulted with Dr. Camran Nezhat and Dr. Mona Orady, and here are my thoughts:
Dr. Camran Nezhat:
He performed a quick ultrasound and immediately diagnosed me with endometriosis, even though I don’t have typical symptoms. He ordered an MRI, which did not confirm endometriosis, yet he still insisted I have it and recommended surgery with him to improve my chances of a successful pregnancy. Surprisingly, he didn’t even review my MRI images!
While he is highly renowned, I wasn’t particularly impressed. I’m also unsure if he accurately interpreted the ultrasound results and measured accurately! He is 77!
He is quite experienced and has performed many surgeries, which is definitely a factor to consider, but I have some doubts about his approach.
Dr. Mona Orady:
She conducted a much more thorough evaluation—she reviewed my MRI, asked detailed questions, and ordered lab tests along with an HSG to check if my tubes are open. She also suspected endometriosis but took a more data-driven approach before recommending surgery.
However, she isn’t as well-known as Dr. Nezhat, and I couldn’t find confirmation of whether she completed a fellowship (does she?). In contrast, Dr. Nezhat has a fellowship in infertility and is a pioneer in laparoscopic surgery.
Has anyone had any experience with either of them? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Also, if you know of any top specialists in endometriosis or fibroid surgery anywhere in the U.S., please share. I’m open to traveling for the right doctor. Thanks!

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience! Happy to hear you had a good surgery experience with her.
Can you please share more info about your case? Did you have endo? May I know what stage, and whether you had chocolate cyst in your ovaries?
Was fertility your concern?
I have two intramural fibroids, 7cm and 3.5cm. But when met Dr Nezhat and Orady, they both guessed I have endo!
I was also very happy with Dr Orady approach and how accurate she was doing the checkup. But my only concern is that I don’t see she holds fellowship (in Laprascopy or fertility).
Dr Nezhat seemed less accurate in the checkup, I am not sure if he was really caring reading the numbers and measure accurately when he was doing ultrasound, but he is pretty famous and also hold fellowship in infertility!
If you can also share your opinion about each of the three doctors, it would be great.
I need to make a final decision soon, and fertility is my main concern as I have no kid yet.

Nezhat did my surgery as well, stage IV, bilateral endometriomas, retroperitoneal fibrosis, multiple organs adhered to eachother, and the endo on my bowel and bladder was deeply infiltrative. He saved both of my ovaries and tubes, and did not need to do any bowel or bladder resection.
I'm still having issues I'm dealing with, but things have vastly improved. My husband and I are currently going through IVF, but I believe our chances are much better since I had my surgery.
I'm 33 and had been suffering since I was 10 with pain and issues and no one ever believed me. My pain was getting so bad before my surgery that walking was becoming difficult.
Dr. Nezhat gave me my life back, gave me forward movement in my journey to better health, and gave me a better chance at becoming and mother - I hope he can help you too ❤️

I know others who have had surgery done by him as well and have had good outcomes. Every surgery has its risks of course, and there's always a chance he can't get everything, but he tries to save as much as he can.
There are not alot of surgeons who specialize in endometriosis, its a very challenging disease that not a lot is known about unfortunately, so we as sufferers have to advocate for ourselves and seek out multiple opinions, and ultimately decide for ourselves what we think will give us the best chance.
I did not expect to come out of surgery pain free and cured, i went in with the expectation that nothing would change, but even if it didn't, at least I'd have some answers.
Like I said, I still have pain, and I'm still have many issues that I'm trying to figure out and navigate, but I have had a lot of improvement, and now I have some answers too.
Wishing you so so much luck on your hard journey. Stay strong! ❤️

When I was desperate I just started googling for specialists and thats how I found my doctor. This was in 2023, before endo started exploding on social media and becoming more known, but I still had to wait like a month or two I think. My endo hadn't quite hit a boiling point yet but it was close. I think my original appointment was about 2 months out, but I got lucky and they haf a cancelation so I got in sooner
That is my suggestion, just start googling and calling offices and making appointments, get on waitlists for cancelations and just see who can see you the quickest and then cancel all the others.
My doctor is Dr. Camran Nezhat in Woodside, California. He saved my life.

I am actually in the US, and have insurance that made it possible for me to see an endometriosis specialist of my own accord. His name is Dr. Camran Nezhat and he is based in Woodside, California.
He was able to get me into surgery pretty quickly because he only treats endometriosis patients and has a facility specifically for his surgeries. He also does them at another in-network facility during specific times, so we had to submit a request to my insurance to get an approval to do the surgery at his center, otherwise i would have had to wait over 6 months for surgery. I just got extremely lucky, because as it was I could barely walk by the time I got to my surgery day.
I have heard that you all dealing with the NHS struggle so much with getting adequate care, and I am so sorry you have to go through that.

This is two years ago so I’ll just add for those who might find their way here:
I have been suffering from intense menstrual cycles since I was 12. I got in a car accident on Easter (guy rear ended us and totaled my car). The trauma of the accident kick started a domino effect of symptoms.
I’m now to a point where I’m suffering MCAS-like flares, Gi issues and the most intense pain I’ve ever felt during menstrual cycles. I’ve been in and out of Kaiser referrals and my PCP for over a year.

Been fighting for 3 months after an accident exacerbated my symptoms to full-blown survival mode and urgent surgery is now needed. What was once manageable my whole life - has now flipped my world upside down all because some dingbat wasn’t paying attention and slammed into the back of my car.
My doctors say “Endo can’t be diagnosed until surgery” and SDI says “your doctor needs to send the appropriate documentation”
NO ONE IS SAYING “this poor woman has suffered tremendously for two months since the accident.. surgery is still another projected 3 months away… she needs help while her symptoms are debilitating and keep her from accepting work right now.”
Dr. Nezhat (world-renowned leading specialist out of San Francisco) basically said “patient has exhausted all conservative attempts at managing her symptoms, I now recommend surgery.” So I’m gonna use that but his office doesn’t do online so I have to request the forms from SDI. You should never have to ENDURE excruciating pain - even if the doctors try to say its normal. You know your body best, and it's not. My recommendation would be to see an expert excision specialist. OBGYN often miss it because they are not trained properly. If you're local to the bay area, california - I recommend Dr. Nezhat (private practice) or Dr. Ocampo - his prodigy - (through Kaiser Daly City)

Mine was Dr Camran Nezhat in San Francisco. I literally researched everything there was to know about him! these are your reproductive organs!! They are so delicate! if your fertility is of importance then definitely go to the best endo specialist you can! It’s worth traveling to.
My gyn also said she “does these surgeries”, psh! No way in hell would I go to her. She couldn’t even tell a regular cyst from an endometrioma on an ultrasound, when I already had and diagnosed myself! Smh 🤦♀️ maybe there are some gyn’s who are skillful at this, but they are far and few between. Go to a specialist is my advice!

Ladies I had my surgery yesterday. My tummy is delicate but because of the gas they put into u my shoulders hurt. It’s getting better tho. I’ll fly back to LA 3 days post op. I’m seeing Dr Camran tomorrow so he can tell me what he did in more detail. He was very positive, his team at reception (Ali) really motivating and nice. The nurses are everything here, they listen. The lady that does the anesthesia is wonderful. Listens as well and patient
I do have ppo insurance with United so my once at the office I paid $800-$900 ish (for deductible)and for ny pre op I paid the $2,500 for that assistant fee. Surgery took like 2-3 hours and I’m not feeling the endometriosis pain as of now. I went into surgery feeling it tho and I was scared I would wake up with the surgery pain and the endo pain but no. Thank god. So far so good and he said I should be able to have babies whenever I want now😌☺️

Yes I did and if it’s the lawsuits online. As unfortunate as that is it can happen. My surgery went amazingly well. He was extremely supportive, kind and motivating. He is a very positive person. I was super nervous before surgery and he gave me a very positive talk I needed so much. I’m so much better now and 7 months post op. He blessed my life
